MTV’s Hollywood Crush discovered that Chris Columbus who directed Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets glanced at the first adaptation of the script for Twilight, based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer. Mr. Columbus was quoted to have said that he guessed he did read a script “early on”, but he was in the middle of something else.
Currently, he is working on the film adaptation of The Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. So, according to the article, Mr. Columbus does not regret passing the opportunity to direct Twilight or leaving the series of Harry Potter films. But he does acknowledge “a strange feeling” to see the films released with different directors:
“I miss it just because I look at everyone I cast and all these sets I built. Everything is still standing there. It’s weird. It’s like looking at old home movies, though the people in the home movies are aging … The kids are getting older and they’ve become better actors. All the things I hoped for have come true … But it’s a very odd separation anxiety to see my entire cast and crew behind the camera. It’s like, ‘Where am I in this situation?’”

I’ve posted more of our videos from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter celebrations. This time we have Warwick Davis conducting the Hogwarts Chorus to Something Wicked this way Comes. There’s John Williams conducting the Orlando Philharmonic Symphony. The cast show up in the Knight Bus and the Ford Anglia to help open up Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with some magic and a lot of fireworks! We also have more of the interviews from the press conference with the cast. Check back tomorrow for videos and photos from the public grand opening of the Wizarding World!

It’s not good to compare Harry Potter films and Twilight, since they are completely done to different audiences. Harry Potter is for preteen who like adventure and action, but Twilight is for almost adults and adults. The way emotions are portrayed in those movies are from different planets: emotions are crucial in Twilight, in Harry Potter they take perhaps 2% of the time, because adventure is the main focus. I would rather compare Twilight with films like the Piano.
