Dear God, it’s more amazing than I had anticipated! If that piece of orchestration is anything like the rest of the score, Alexander Desplat has two thumbs way up from me! It’s the last book in the series, and the two most epic movies since The Lord of the Rings!

I was thinking the same thing…only one mistake I noticed…when Voldemort does the Avada Kedavra his want has a bluish light and not a red light.

Well, Avada Kedavra ought to be green light anyway… I’d say that it looks to be green. Maybe I’m just seeing things – but it looks to be the right colour to me.

Woah. Sweet, man…. looks like it’ll be quite an event. Personally though, I disagree with you Aragorn; I found the music to be nothing more than generic “epic” music. Thankfully, they usually don’t put music from the actual movie in the trailers, so I doubt it’s much of a premonition of what Desplat’s score will be like. Overall, sweet trailer! (P.S. Did anyone notice a bit of editing with Hermione’s hands?)

The orchestral score for the trailer is indeed so delicious. The piece used for the 2nd half is nothing too special, but the first half (approx 0:55-1:30) was so so good. I can imagine how it might sound “generic” to the the average listener, but this one is definitely anything but. It made an immediate impact on me and i’m ranking it as high as Romeo+Juliet’s “O Verona” on my personal favourites list. Much of the LoTR “epic music” didn’t even come close.
I’m not too familiar with trailer music making it to the film soundtrack, but I’m going to be so heartbroken if that piece is not on it. Do they usually leave out the trailer music?? Should i give up hope that Desplat’s trailer music won’t be available on any platform at all?
Dabbyman: i noticed the hands thing with Emma watson as well… if we’re talking about the same thing? The part where she’s in a forest looking petrified and holding up a wand in defence. (1:17) Whats up with that? In the “bootleg” trailer her hands were bloody, in the MTV preview it was mud, and for this final version her hands are washed clean. I’d personally prefer the bloodied hands but maybe WB thought it was too violent an image for kids?

Actually, I’ve seen the originally photo for this scene (with Hermione’s hands) and I must believe that the photo was edited to have the blood on it. Well, I’ve seen it both ways. If you notice in that photo, it looks like Ron might be splinched in that scene.
I know Alexandre Desplat started the score just a few weeks ago, so this is probably just a quickly put together piece for the trailer.
And Aragorn is right…Avada Kedavra is green. :\ Rough day yesterday.

“A quickly put together piece” and Desplat comes up with *that*?? Oh, my Lord. He is one unbelievably talented man… This final incarnation of the HP7 trailer is so much better than the previous ones, solely because of the breathtaking audio behind it.
@Dijares, if there is more info pertaining to ANYTHING at all about the orchestral score for the trailer, please please please let me know. i’d be indebted to you for life.
i love it so badly.

If that really and truly is a piece put together so quickly by Alexandre Desplat – there is absolutely no way this next score will not win countless awards. I’m inclined to think that it was not an orchestration put together by Desplat, however, seeing as he’s been working on the score for such a short period of time. Maybe, if we ask really really nicely, Dijares can ask Warner Brothers if it is actually a piece done by Desplat – and maybe they’ll even respond.
Personally, I felt that the orchestration was perfect for the trailer. Moments in particular that I enjoyed were at 0:54 when it first cuts to the epic music, at 1:28 with the forest where the score does a creepy little bit, and 2:08 with the new rendition of Hedwig’s Theme playing over the Warner Brothers logo. No one can deny that the choir was absolutely superb.
The cinematography for this trailer – and I’m supposing the films themselves, too, was also amazing. At 0:23 during the overview of the field of grass, at 0:54 on the machine in Gringott’s Bank with Griphook, at 1:08 with the Death Eater on the train tracks, and 1:20 with the Death Eaters all grouped up – and then the cut right to Ron and Hermione in front of the rubble that remains of Hogwarts… just wow… And if that weren’t enough, the fight at 2:01 is pretty dang cool, too…
I give some win!points to Warner Brothers on this trailer… seriously.

Aragorn, im so happy to be able to discuss this right now with someone who is as psycho about it as I am. I could go on and on about the trailer as well, but i’ll just cover the music. If you will check out my timestamps, basically from my first post till now i’ve been doing some hardcore Nancy Drew detective work! So here’s what i found, thanks to various soundtrack messageboards as well as imdb’s.
There is a bit of confusion out there about the trailer music, because there are at least 2 different trailers. The first trailer (Apr ’10) was 1:50 in length and contained a short interview segment in the first half. Apart from that segment being somewhat of a snoozefest, it was scored by Magic Box Music, and to say that it was flat and underwhelming is abit of an understatement. I don’t mean to be unkind about the editing team’s efforts, guess i’m saying that because in comparison this new trailer (28 June) completely knocks it out of the park.
The music in the 28 June trailer is not by Desplat, but adapted from the earlier works of Pfeifer Broz. The glorious piece from 0:55-1:30 is “Glacial Supremacy” and one that follows is “Absolute Arthopoid”.
After more digging I managed to find the original Glacial Supremacy track, but it turned out to be not what i was looking for because it contains no choir at all. Later on i found this guy on youtube that uploaded a clip that contains ONLY the audio from the trailer. Yess!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQXMwe-U360) I rejoiced but it didn’t last long. The thing is, it fell short a little. Its somewhat of a DEMO version of the final product. The audio is noticeably different on 3 occasions.
So for now that’s how far along my search is. I’m calling it a night. If there’s any new developments, please do update us here!
