Emma Watson: “No Bullying Happened at Brown”

Posted by Dijares On April - 29 - 2011

Emma WatsonWe previously reported that Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) would be leaving Brown University.  Since this time, there has been much speculation on the reason for her departure.  Some of this speculation includes that she was bullied at the school.  Emma Watson has posted a note on her website to state that this is not the case. She said she still has no idea what she’ll be doing by this September.  She also said she hoped everyone liked the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 trailer (see it here!) and that she’ll be leaving soon for Pittsburgh to start filming The Perks of being a Wallflower.

Here’s what she had to say:

Dear All,

I felt the need to let you all know the reason I took a semester off from Brown had nothing to do with bullying as the media have been suggesting recently. I have never been bullied in my life and certainly never at Brown. This ’10 points to Gryffindor’ incident never even happened. I feel the need to say this because accusing Brown students of something as serious as bullying and this causing me to leave seems beyond unfair.
Please don’t try and speculate about what I might do in September – no one can possibly know because I don’t even know yet! Like my other fellow Brown students I am trying to figure out my third year and whether or not I will spend it abroad (this is common).
I hope you all liked the new Harry Potter trailer. I am off to Pittsbugh soon to start “The Perks of being a Wallflower”. I’ve just got back from hanging out with Stephen Chobosky (the director and writer), Logan and Ezra (the two other principal actors) and I already know this is going to be an incredible experience. I feel very lucky.
Hope you are all doing good.
Take care,
Love Emma xx.

Tom Felton Talks About ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’

Posted by Lilysowl On April - 28 - 2011

Tom FeltonTom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is another Harry Potter star who plans to continue acting now that the Harry Potter films are completed.  And one of those acting jobs happened to be in the upcoming film Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes which will be released in movie theaters on August 5, 2011.  Now that the trailer has been released online, Tom Felton spoke to MTV about his role in the film.  Here is an excerpt from the interview:

MTV: It must also be nice to see yourself in a movie without Draco Malfoy’s bleached-blond hair.

Felton: It’s funny you say that, because the first time we went out to Vancouver for the screen tests, they had me there in the outfit and [director] Rupert was like, “I like it, but you need blond hair. I need you to look Californian.” I was like, “Seriously? Really?” He was like, “Yes!” And I was like, “OK, if that’s what you want.” Then he digged me in the ribs and [said] he was just winding me up. So we got off to a good start, me and Rupert. But he was the first one to say we want you looking as different as possible. That was nice, because he wanted me based on what he’d seen previously in “Potter” but also something completely different.

MTV: Is there one scene that you’re particularly excited about?

Felton: There were so many. You know, I’m used to “Potter” secrecy, but this is even more so. They’ve got me under lock and key on this one. There’s no book, so no one knows the story. I had some great one-on-one scenes with Andy Serkis, who plays the lead ape, Caesar. Those were amazing, because not only was he doing the body movements flawlessly, but also facial expressions and sounds.

MTV: Was it always guys in motion-capture suits or did you ever have to act opposite a tennis ball or the thin air?

Felton: It’s such a strange system. They film it all with the stunt performers who have learned for six months how to move like an ape. It’s actually quite scary, watching a dozen men bouncing around the room like apes. They’d film that three times, then we’d film one blank where it’s just the humans, then they match up stuff. They have an army of guys with notepads marking all sorts of numbers and graphs and stuff. I don’t know how they pull it all off in the end. It’s crazy!

MTV: Tell us about your character. You play Brian Cox’s son?

Felton: Yeah, when Caesar, our lead ape, gets too big for James Franco’s character to look after anymore, they have to put him into a facility. Brian Cox, who plays my dad, owns it, and I work there. Needless to say, I’m supposed to be looking after the apes, but I really don’t do that job very well. I don’t get on well with them and I’m not that friendly with them. I’m kind of what instigates Caesar’s revolt against humans. Before that, he only knew James Franco’s character. He thought all humans were going to be friendly and nice. It’s through my father and my character that he learns the perils of humanity and how bad we really are.
