Posted by Dijares On October - 30 - 2011

Also a video that’s part of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 DVD/BD special features is online over at Entertainment Weekly.  It has the cast discussing the infamous  ‘Not my daughter!’ Mrs. Weasley vs. Bellatrix Lestrange fight.  Check it out here.

Nov. Calendar: 10 Yr Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone Anniv

Posted by Dijares On October - 30 - 2011

Harry Potter's PageThis month’s calendar that the wonderful Crmhpfan made will bring back memories of when the very first Harry Potter film – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone – was released back in November 2001.  It shows a very young Dan Radcliffe as Harry Potter in his robes on the train, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) with their Gryffindor scarves, and Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) with his cronies, Crabbe (Jamie Waylett) and Goyle (Josh Herdman).

After clicking on the size that you want, right click on the calendar, and click ’set as background’ for IE, or ’set as desktop desktop background’ for Firefox.  For those who use Chrome, you’ll have to save the file, right click on your desktop, personalize, go to your background settings and browse to where you saved the image.

Brings tears to my eyes! Great job, Crmhpfan!

WB: Potter Goodies won’t be Completely Gone

Posted by Dijares On October - 28 - 2011

We previously reported that from December 29th, the Harry Potter films will no longer be shipped out to outlets.  Of course, this panicked a few of us fans.  Jeff Baker, senior vp and general manager of Warner Bros.’ Theatrical Catalog, informed Entertainment Weekly that the films aren’t going to disappear, but they may become harder to come by.  And they are also expecting to ship out a new product at the beginning of 2012 and other things are planned for Potter.

“Even though there could be a sense of urgency from the consumers’ perspective, there will be Potter product come the first of the year,” says Jeff Baker, senior vp and general manager of Warner Bros.’ Theatrical Catalog. “But over time, they’ll be less and less of that inventory. At some point, whether it’s next April or May or June or July, it’ll probably be very difficult to find Harry Potter product, especially if you’re looking for the third movie or the fifth movie, for example.”

There are also other avenues that fans can take to get the films, like video-on-demand or digital download.

“The idea is not to let Harry Potter dissipate. There are exhibits around the world. There’s the Harry Potter World…in Orlando,” says Baker. “There are a lot of things that are Harry Potter that are going to be available to consumers well into the future, and we certainly want a home entertainment component to those grand plans.”

There is discussion internally about aggregating assets from all of these films over the last decade and adding some new things — we’ve never done an Ultimate Edition on the final two films — and doing some grand kind of piece,” says Baker. “It could be the end of 2012 or the beginning of ’13.”

So, no worries, Potter fans. However, if you don’t have your copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Blu-ray, I’d suggest you get it now.

Pottermore Beta Testing Time Extended

Posted by Dijares On October - 28 - 2011

PottermoreWe previously told you that the Pottermore Insider Blog had stated that Pottermore will open to the public towards the end of October.  Well, here it is the end of October, so I’m sure many of you are wondering when that’s going to happen (I know I was myself just this morning).

The Insider Blog has done another update to let everyone know that they’re going to extend the beta testing a bitlonger.  The site is also going to be down for a few days beginning November 2nd.

They thank everyone for their patience with this process.  They want to make Pottermore is the best experience ever and that can’t be done if some work still needs to done.

They didn’t give us a time frame, but as soon as we hear something we’ll let you know.

Pottermore: The Making of Slytherin & Hufflepuff Crests

Posted by Dijares On October - 27 - 2011

Slytherin and Hufflepuff House CrestsThe Pottermore Insider Blog has given us another update, this time about how they developed the Slythin and Hufflepuff house crests for Pottermore.  If you didn’t get to see how they made the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw house crests, check out our previous post here.

This time they tell us that the Hufflepuff crest was the most difficult to make.  The reason for this was because there isn’t a lot of information on the Hufflepuff house.  They also wanted to show the badger, the Hufflepuff animal, as tenacious and hard working, like those that belong to Hufflepuff house.

In the first crest you can see the badger almost resting on a bed of leaves, but the team felt this version looked too approachable and inactive. The drawing in which the badger is facing forwards didn’t look enough like a traditional crest and also made the animal appear too gentle. It was finally decided that the badger that was the most faithful to the Hufflepuff house qualities was the one on all fours, posed as if defending its territory and warning off others.

Hufflepuff Crest Drawings

For Slytherin, they used many different styles of snakes because they didn’t want the crest to have a particular type of snake. The coil of the snake was important as well, as they wanted to make it look natural, but active.

Slytherin Crest Drawings

For the final version of the Hufflepuff crest, they made the yellow a bit muted to make the badger stand out more.

Hufflepuff Crests

The Slytherin crest coloring was a bit more detailed with the snake receiving many different patterns.

In the end, because they wanted to stay true to the house colours of green and silver, the team set to work designing a snake that looked like it had been created by a silversmith. They felt this brought the whole crest to life, especially when combined with the green ripples in the background, designed to accentuate the water element.

The Hufflepuff crest was finished with a strong vibrant yellow and patterned leaves to symbolise the earth element. The badger looks as if it is already hard at work, with its stance showing that it’s ready for action. (A piece of trivia to note: the head of the Atomhawk Design team was sorted into Hufflepuff on Pottermore and says he is very proud of his crest!).

Some of the Pottermore Slytherin community have already noticed that theirs is the only animal looking to the left, while the other house crests have animals looking to the right. This was a decision that came about during the final stages of design, when the crests were all placed together.

HP Official Site Updated With DH Pt 2 DVD/Blu Ray Trailer

Posted by Lilysowl On October - 25 - 2011

Now that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack is available for pre-order, the official Harry Potter site has been updated with a great trailer for the combo pack.   Along with a couple of clips from the movie trailer, there are a couple of new ones like Professor McGonagall confiding to Mrs. Weasley how she had always wanted to do the spell she just completed.

The trailer revealed that once again the Maximum Mode feature will be used for a behind-the-scenes look.  In the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) was one of the narrators for this feature.  This time, Harry Potter fans will see the three main stars, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), share their memories while viewing set designs, etc.  An example was Radcliffe saying how he always felt challenged by Alan Rickman whenever they had to do a “Harry” and “Snape” scene together.

A clip of the conversation between J.K. Rowling and Radcliffe where she mentioned her intention for the books to get darker was also shown in the trailer montage:

“I had said from the very first, I want them to grow up, and it will get darker, and it will get scarier…”

The trailer confirmed the combo includes an “UltraViolet digital copy” of the film to download.

Click here to view the fascinating trailer for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack which will be available on November 11, 2011.
