Pottermore has posted an introductory video of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the article, there is a link to the background story of the North American wizarding school and its four houses known as Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie, Thunderbird and Wampus. They are named after four magical creatures that actually exist in the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling.
• Horned Serpent – a ‘great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead’
• Pukwudgie – ‘a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature’
• Thunderbird – a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies’
• Wampus – ‘a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill’
The story of Ilvermorny is the second one in a series of writings titled Magic in North America by J.K. Rowling that can be read on Pottermore. The writings are intended to help us learn about the history of magic in the United States before we watch the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It is scheduled to be released in November.
