| Alan Rickman was born 21 February 1946 in
Hammersmith, London. His acting experience is both vast and
varied. He's has played a multitude of different styles, from
a terrorist to an alien. In Harry Potter, he is the greas,y
long haired, ambiguous and supposedly evil Professor Severus
Snape.
He attended the Royal College of Art and became a graphic
artist. He then received a scholarship to the Royal Academy
of Dramatic Arts which he attended from 1972 - 1974. Here
he won the Emile Litter Prize, the Bancroft Gold Medal, and
the Forbes Robertson Prize.
Alan Rickman is very much a stage actor, spending time with
such theatre companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company. While
with this company he was in many different performances, including
Les Liasons Dangereuses, as the sneaky Le Viconte de
Valmont. He later earned a Tony nomination for his performance
as the dangerous seducer when the role took him to Broadway.
While he was on Broadway, he was asked to play the terrorist
role of Hans Gruber for the first Die Hard movie,
and has often been cast in the villaneous roles since then.
He
has also worked with some experiemental
groups, working on such projects as
The Seagull and Snoo Wilson's
The Grass Widow. He has a
tradition of attending the Edinburgh
International Festival as well. |
