Happy Birhday, Brendan Gleeson!
|
Happy Birthday, Mr. Gleeson! The actor who portrayed Mad-Eye Moody in Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix is 54 years old today. Brendan Gleeson was born in Dublin, Ireland on March 29, 1955.
As a child, he enjoyed reading. After he graduated from University College Dublin, Mr. Gleeson taught English and Drama as a secondary school teacher in Belcamp College. He became a full-time actor at the age of 34 and received high recognition for his role as "Michael Collins" in The Treaty a television film broadcast on RTÉ One. Mr. Gleeson received a Jacob's Award (the Irish television awards) in 1992 for that role. He was also in Braveheart, Gangs of New York, Cold Mountain, and Troy. His recent movie was In Bruges with Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort).
Although it has not been officially confirmed that Mr. Gleeson will reprise his role as "Mad-Eye Moody" in Deathly Hallows, his son Domhnall Gleeson has been cast as Ron Weasley's oldest brother, Bill Weasley.

Harry Potter Stars and BAFTA

As the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award ceremony is currently being broadcast live in the UK, photos of Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) on the red carpet have already been released online. Last evening, Watson had attended a pre-ceremony nominee party at Asprey in central London. On the previous Friday evening, Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) attended Vogue’s pre-BAFTA dinner. Video: Harry Potter Actors Nominated For Golden Globe Awards
|
CBS-TV’s The Early Show posted a video of the official announcement of nominees for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Among the nominees were Harry Potter stars Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney), and Brendan Gleeson (Mad-Eye Moody).
Mr. Fiennes was recognized for his roles in The Duchess and Bernard and Doris. Ms. Thompson was recognized for her role in Last Chance Harvey. And Mr. Gleeson was recognized for his role in the film In Bruges which he co-starred with Mr. Fiennes.
The award ceremony will be in Los Angeles, CA on January 11, 2009.

Potter Stars Receive Nominations, Recognition from BIFA
|
Three Harry Potter stars have either been nominated for awards or are receiving recognition from the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA).
Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) has received two nominations for best supporting actor for his performances in The Duchess and In Bruges.
Brendan Gleeson (Mad-Eye Moody) is up for the best actor award for his role in In Bruges.
And, lastly, David Thewlis (Professor Lupin) is to be recognized for his outstanding contribution to British film and will receive an award named after the late Richard Harris (the first Professor Dumbledore).
The BIFA 2008 takes place on November 30, 2008 at Old Billingsgate Market. |
