Bill Nighy, who portrays Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows spoke recently in an interview with Premiere.fr about working with the cast of Harry Potter while promoting his newest film Wild Target.
The official trailer for Rupert Grint’s film Wild Targethas been released online. The actor who portrays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films starred in this story about a “hitman with a heart” with Bill Nighy prior to Nighy receiving the role as “Rufus Scrimgeour, the Minister of Magic” in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Although we previously reported that Wild Target would be released in UK cinemas on April 8, the date has been extended to June 18. Unfortunately, there is no word on whether or not it will be released in the US.
According to the film’s official YouTube page, the synopsis is:
Bill Nighy is Victor Maynard, a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, Louisa (Eileen Atkins), despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose (Emily Blunt). He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring a young apprentice in the process, Tony (Rupert Grint). Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client (Rupert Everett).
Perhaps it is due to the lateness of the hour and I get too busy with Harry Potter news to go out much, but this is the funniest trailer I’ve seen in awhile. Grint really has some funny moments.
Rupert Grint’s (Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films) Wild Target, in which he stars with Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour), finally has a release date. The film will hit UK cinemas on April 9, 2010.
Billy Nighy, who portrays Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, recently talked about the strict measures taken to ensure the film’s script is kept a secret. He said he had to shred the script after he was finished with it.
“They kill you, if you leave your script lying around or leave it on the bus, you’re dead,” he said, laughing.
“You have to sign a confidentiality (agreement) and stuff like that which is perfectly understandable. So if I tell you any more, they’ll come round my house.”
He also talked about how great it was to be part of the Potter franchise and how it was working with Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and director David Yates.
“It was very sweet, very nice to work with him, and with Emma and Rupert, and with David Yates as this is my fourth time working with him,” he added at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film, Astro Boy.
“It’s great. I thought I was going to be the only British actor of a certain age not to be in Harry Potter and it turned out not to be true so it’s kind of cool.”
Bill Nighy, who portrays Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has been spotted in Liverpool in the area where current night shoots for the film are taking place at the Birkenhead tunnel. He was seen at Gusto at the Albert Dock and at the Italian Club on Bold Street. Keep checking back for more information!
Bill Nighy, who portrays Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, recently spoke with BBC Radio 1′s Newsbeat about his role in the film and his part with G-Force. He’s already been in for costume fittings and will begin filming next week.
“I start filming next week and I’ve been in for costume fittings and things. I can’t tell you too much about it because they do literally, I think they kill me or take my house or something if I tell you anything too much. And for good reasons, so that it all comes as a bit of a surprise.”
We previously reported on Bill Nighy’s confirmation that he will be playing “Rufus Scrimgeour” in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Also, we mentioned his interview with SciFi about his role as the new Prime Minister in the Ministry of Magic. While promoting his latest film, the animated guinea pig adventure story, G-Force, Mr. Nighy admitted to MTV in a video interview:
“I was beginning to settle on the idea that I would be the only English actor of a certain age who wasn’t in ‘Harry Potter,’”
He also admitted he had not read the books and would need to take a “crash course” in the world of Harry Potter.
Perhaps Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), who starred with the actor “of a certain age” inWild Target, will give him a lot of pointers.
Bill Nighy, who we previously confirmed will have the part of the Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, spoke with SciFi about the part. Here’s a bit of what he had to say:
“Scrimgeour is a rather tragic figure, without giving too much away,” Nighy said. “But there’s no giving too much away, because everybody’s read the books. So he’s a kind of tragic figure. You have that element. And he knows what’s coming. So that’s a very moving thing to play. He’s also very powerful, and he’s had a very complicated progress to the top. And he has an interesting relationship with Harry [Daniel Radcliffe], because Harry views him initially with complete contempt, but then it’s softened by subsequent events.”
“Well, there’s one where he comes and delivers Dumbledore’s [Michael Gambon] legacy to the three children,” Nighy replied, referring to Harry, Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint, with whom Nighy worked on the upcoming action-comedy Wild Target). “He gives them all of the things that Dumbledore has left them, and that’s when it’s first indicated that he may not be around for much longer. So it’s quite an affecting scene.”
