Dan on Filming Naked, Emma on Kissing Rupert & Dan

Posted by Dijares On February - 1 - 2010

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsA new article on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is in French magazine One.  The article includes interviews with Dan, Emma, and Rupert.  Dan confirms he films a scene naked (see our previous article here), Emma talks about kissing Rupert and Dan (what?), and Rupert talks about the physical aspects of the film. Below are a few excerpts (translated from French).

Emma Watson on kissing Rupert & Dan and on filming the epilogue…

“To kiss Rupert in front of cameras will stay the strangest experience for me, since I’ve played in Harry Potter. He and I were frightened about this scene, and wanted to do it quickly. But the hardest is coming … I have to kiss Dan ! It’s a scene where Ron imagines a kiss between Harry and Hermione.”

“We haven’t filmed the epilogue yet, in which we can see the future of Harry, Ron and Hermione 19 years later. At the beginning, producers would like to replace us, but they finally kept us. We will look like 40 years old persons. I’m very impatient to see that !”

Daniel Radcliffe on filming the naked scene and the 7 Potters scene…

“In the Deathly Hallows, you’ll see Harry as you never saw him before ! For example, I shot a scene where I’m entirely naked. When I read the script, I thought that I would wear underwear but no ! I’ve already done it for Equus so it wasn’t so difficult. I’m wondering how people will react, even if any things will be hidden in the screen !”

“Recently, we’ve finished a scene in which I had difficulties. It’s the 7 Potter’s scene ! We had to shoot a take where I was a different Harry instead of the other actors. It was fun, but very hard, because sometimes, I forgot who I had to be … That made me crazy !”

Rupert Grint on the physical scenes and Dan being sick…

“We shot a lot of physical scenes. For Daniel, filming was very complicated. But he never complained … When he became sick because of filming conditions, he was ok and he never complained …”

Thanks to Harry Potter Forever.

Update5: WWoHP 3D Peek & Interviews

Posted by Dijares On January - 28 - 2010

Wizarding World of Harry PotterWe previously told you that today’s USA Today would give you 3D peek of Universal Studios, Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  You can take the printed map and rotate it in front of your webcam and get a closer look at the entire area from all sides and angles using augmented-reality technology.  You’ll get to see Hogwarts, Hogsmeade village, where the Hogwarts Express arrived, and even blow on your computer’s microphone to make the banners wave.

Also, USA Today have a video online showing how to make the map come to life (thanks to UHP). Check it out here!

UPDATE: Universal Studios, Orlando, have updated their site with a release on what all will be included in Ollivander’s.

Visitors to the Ollivanders wand shop at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will step into one of the most iconic scenes from the bestselling Harry Potter books and blockbuster feature films. With the assistance of a live actor, along with amazing special effects, guests of Ollivanders will get to experience the same type of magical moment Harry had in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” when a wand ”chooses them.”

You can see artwork of the shop in our gallery here (thanks to HPANA).

UPDATE 2: You can now print out a version of the map from USA Today.  Go here to print out your map!

UPDATE 3: Okay, I just got through going through my very own 3D Wizarding World of Harry Potter experience!  It was soooo awesome!  Make sure to go get your map here, and then go here to start the fun!

UPDATE 4: A phone conference was held this morning with Universal Studios Orlando’s Vice President of Creative Development, Thierry Coup, and many Harry Potter websites.  We have some notes for you from the phone conference (thanks to SS).

• Ollivander’s is set up so that it has an air of being around forever; you will be greeted by the wandmaker (not Ollivander, but working for him at Hogsmeade); you’ll walk in the shop, see stacks and shelves of wand boxes at numerous levels. It’s very intimate inside the shop, and very tall, according to Coup. Stuart Craig will be creating some of the wands, approved by J.K. Rowling. The wand will choose the wizard who owns it, which will be done by special and unique processes (though no detail yet). There will be a wand fitting, and if it doesn’t work out, there will be interesting effects, including flowers wilting and lightning at all angles of the shop itself. You will know that the wand you chose won’t be yours. If the right wand does choose you, you will have the option to choose it or not. There are 13 different types of wand wood for the choosing, which are unique to the shop; children will have their own special wands, too.
• At Dervish and Banges, there will be wand accessories that can be bought (though sadly can’t be revealed now).
• The wand choosing process can take up to two minutes at least to much more. Pricing range has not been determined; the wand choosing itself won’t be charged, just the wand itself.
• There will be wands from some of the main characters wands - hero wands - including in sets; this is different to personal wands that will be chosen for wizards.
• As for the shops in Hogsmeade, they are near completion, but there are still “final touches” to them.
• Hogwarts Castle, from the exterior, is “very large.” Iconic rooms, such as Dumbledore’s office, the Dark Arts classroom, and the Great Hall, amongst others.
• Many props were chosen from the Harry Potter film sets, such as the Flying Ford Anglia (which sadly did not fly).
• Owl shop and Dervish and Banges are the smallest, Ollivanders is slightly larger, and Zonko’s joke shop is the largest. There are no queues to get into the shops, despite being attractions as well as shops.
• There are plans of expansion within the park, and will include many more attraction sites (though no further word has been stated on this).
• The shops will be as close to the films’ version as possible (as shown by the early Ollivanders shop photos). Coup and the rest of his creative team opted to make it as faithful to the original project as possible.

UPDATE 5: Audio of the the phone conference with Universal Studios, Orlando, is now online. You listen below (thanks to SS):

Thanks so much to Universal Studios, Orlando, for all of this fun!

It’s Harry Potter’s Desk for January 2010’s Calendar

Posted by Dijares On December - 31 - 2009

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceWe’ve now been doing the desktop calendars for over three years, and I have to say that this month’s has to be the best yet. Crmhpfan has truly outdone herself. She made much of what you’ll see on this calendar from scratch. She calls it’Harry’s Desk’ and says the time frame is sometime just past the Hogwarts Battle. There are many details that I know you’ll enjoy on this one!

After clicking on the size that you want, right click on the calendar, and click ’set as background’ for IE, or ’set as desktop desktop background’ for Firefox.

Update: Harry Potter The Exhibition In Boston

Posted by Lilysowl On October - 23 - 2009

Harry Potter: The Exhibition

We previously mentioned that Matthew Lewis would be attending a press event at Boston’s Museum of Science where Harry Potter: The Exhibition will be displayed October 25 - February 21, 2010 .  Harry Potter’s Page was also invited to attend the event, along with other Harry Potter fansites.  Although we could not be there physically to view the exhibit, Dijares asked me to participate in the roundtable discussion via online conference.  I was pretty excited because I was going to have the opportunity to speak to the actor who portrayed Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films as well as to the exhibit coordinators who were excited about re-creating a small portion of Harry’s world for us fans!

Update: Wizarding World to Open Spring 2010

Posted by Dijares On September - 16 - 2009

Wizarding World of Harry PotterI’ve just had the privilege of sitting in with a web cast for Universal Studios Orlando Wizarding World of Harry Potter in which it was announced by Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) that the theme park will open in Spring 2010. The web cast also included Universal Art Director Mark Woodbury, art director Alan Gilmore, and Show Producer Paul Aurio.

The park will consist of 20 acres of shops, dining, and rides!  It will be a totally immersive Harry Potter environment that is faithful to the films.  Entry to the park is made through an arch way, seen here.
Other things the park will include are:

- At the entrance of Hogsmeade, billowing steam and an iconic whistle signal the arrival of the Hogwarts Express into Hogsmeade station
- Across the way is Zonko’s, a joke shop with a collection of tricks and jokes, including Extendable Ears, Boxing Telescopes and Sneakoscopes
- Honeydukes is next door and full of treats like Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans
- The Three Broomsticks and adjacent Hog’s Head pub will feature traditional British fare and drinks including Butterbeer and pumpkin juice
- Across from the Three Broomsticks is The Owlery, where owls roost and await their next delivery
- The Owl Post sends letters with a certified Hogsmeade postmark and sells official stamps from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
- Ollivanders wand shop is an incredible interactive experience where the wand chooses the wizard
- Completing Hogsmeade is Dervish and Banges, the magical instruments and equipment shop featuring Quidditch equipment, Triwizard apparel, Spectrespecs and Remembralls
- The first attraction, Dragon Challenge, features a twin high-speed roller coaster with many iconic elements from the Triwizard Tournament
- Next is Flight of the Hippogriff, a family coaster simulating a Hippogriff training flight over the grounds of Hogwarts castle
- Located in Hogwarts castle, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a thrilling new state-of-the-art attraction that uses entirely new technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced
- Before exiting back into Hogsmeade, Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods is full of Ministry of Magic and magical creatures merchandise, Omnioculars, and even remote control Golden Snitches

See photos of some of the concept art of the park here!

J.K. Rowling said of the park, “The plans I’ve seen look incredibly exciting, and I don’t think fans of the books or films will be disappointed.”

The experience at Olivander’s will include many ‘dusty wand boxes’ with an interactive environment where ‘the wand chooses you’.

When Tom Felton was asked what the he and the rest of the Potter cast were most looking forward to at the park, he said first and foremost the food and drink.  The prop food and drink used on set aren’t quite up to snuff, apparently, so they’re really looking forward to drinking some real butterbeer!  And they’re also looking forward to being the the real village and the buildings instead of just the fronts of buildings that are used on the set. Tom is especially looking forward to just walking through the park. He also spoke of how, after finishing up Half-Blood Prince, he and other cast members had to do some possible motion capture work in which they were told to stand certain ways, face certain ways, but were never told (unfortunately) what exactly what the work was for.

As far as getting J.K. Rowling’s stamp of approval for everything within the park, Woodbury stated that it was a totally collaborative effort.

The memorabilia that you’ll be able to buy include all the food, candy, gadgets that are found in the Potter books!

Fan Report from Deathly Hallows Set

Posted by Dijares On August - 12 - 2009

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsA fan had the chance to visit the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows set and has posted her report online. The report includes many things, including a life-size Grawp, Malfoy Manor, new scenes, and much more!  Here are a few excerpts:

The first thing we saw was a life sized Grawp on top of a building.  That guy is HUGE!  From there, we went on to Grimmauld place.  It had just been used as Baker Street in the new, Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes film and was being repainted for Deathly Hallows.  From here, we drove past the Hogwarts courtyard that was being worked on and also the entrance to Malfoy Manor.  It has a huge hedge (~15 feet tall) and two large, stone pillars flanking either side of the entrance.  They apparently did one or two nights of shooting on this set.  This set was used for the scene where the Snatchers take Harry and the others to Malfoy Manor.  There was also mention of a white peacock at the animal wrangling section and this was probably there for the Malfoy Manor exterior.

Right across from this was another set, but not something we recognized from the books.  It appeared to be a bunch of burned trailers / mobile homes.  Apparently this is a scene where Harry and Hermione show up at a camp site only to see it’s been attacked by Death Eaters.

After this, we saw the actual Burrow!!  Well, the first floor or so, as the rest is CGI.  They were “planting” the tall, reed like grass (like what we saw in the swamp scene in HBP).  Each of the stalks of grass is individually pushed into a foam base, and there were something like 9000 of them that have to be done.  One part of the base was purple.

We turn the corner and right there in front and to our right was Privet Drive!  They had been doing the seven Potter scenes there.

We got a very close and impressive look at Luna’s house.  It looked like a stone base of a tower… just about 15 feet tall.  Again, CGI would be used to complete the house.  Rocks jutted up around the front yard.  Growing up the front of the house was a tree, and the left side was covered with vines and bright orange plants.  Our driver, who was extremely knowledgeable on what was going on, said these were the Dirigible Plums.  They had recently filmed a fight scene here and the right side of the house was pitted with holes where Death Eater spells had hit the house (squib explosions).  They were prepping the house again for a much bigger version of that fight, apparently.  They were adding even more squibs for the new fight.

The first thing we saw was the Room of Requirement, similar to what we saw in Half Blood Prince.  Stacks upon stacks of furniture, books, potions and whatnot (including several chess pieces from Philosopher’s Stone) were everywhere.  Here we got to see a bit of filming that involved the stunt doubles for Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Louis Cordice (Blaise Zabini).  They were perched atop one of the stacks of furniture and rigged into a harness.  Just to the right of these guys, but not used in this scene, was Hagrid/Sirius’ flying motorbike mounted on a rig and lifted off the ground.

When they cut, we slipped into the set and skirted around the edge.  Around the corner from the stunt doubles and through the gap between two stacks of stuff was Tom Felton and Louis Cordice.  We got to watch the playback monitors for the scene they had just shot.  One of the monitors shows the actors exchanging dialog, while the other was an overhead shot of them walking through the stacks.

We went from here to another stage and saw Bathilda Bagshot’s house.  They have done a body cast of that actress and made a snake skin.  Take from that what you will.

I’ll just sum up some of the things we saw:

A dead Dobby (blood on his clothes and sand still on his skin from use on the beach shoot.  So sad to see this, as he was unbelievably life like and real)

A terrifyingly realistic dead Dumbledore body.  This took our breath away when we rounded the corner and saw it on the shelf.  Again, something very emotional to see.  It was scaled down smaller than lifesized, as it was created for a scene where Hagrid was to carry him.  Apparently this wasn’t shot so the body wasn’t used

A model of Katie Bell from Half-Blood Prince (when she gets cursed by the necklace)

Another Katie model that was repurposed for a Greyback scene in Deathly Hallows

Loads of different Centaurs and Greyback models and prosthetics

Loads and loads of goblins.  Apparently a big goblin scene was coming up to be shot.  We were also warned, upon the start of the tour, to watch out for goblins on Segways, but sadly we didn’t get to see that sight

Pictures of Ron turning into Reg Cattermole.  From the looks of this, they will actually be putting very realistic prosthetic makeup on Rupert.  In the final stage makeup picture of him, you would not recognize him as Rupert

Photos and sculptures of Dan’s hexed makeup where he’s hexed to hide his identity from the Snatchers.  This looks amazing!  The right side of his face is all lumpy and deformed.  It’s hard to see Dan under this makeup

The sculpted bust of Rowena Ravenclaw and the diadem perched atop her head. Stunningly beautiful detail!

After the tour, we went to the canteen to have lunch with our guide and the rest of the crew.  While there, our heads were whipping left and right as we saw Rupert, James and Oliver (one of which had a bandage over his head and ear), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), Emma, Tom, Bonnie and Evanna (both sporting hair nets so as not to mess up their ornate hair… presumably for the wedding scene about to be filmed), Stan (Krum… who sat at the table next to us and ate lunch by himself), Warwick Davis and his son, Domhnall Gleeson (had prosthetic scars on the left side of his face), several wedding guests and actor’s doubles.  One of those was, we firmly believe, was Xenophilius’ double.  He was wearing mustard colored corduroys, a pale shirt with a yellow waist coat over the top that was covered in flowers and shoulder length blondish-white hair.  I didn’t get a close enough look to see if he was sporting the Deathly Hallows symbol or not.  Booo.

There’s much more to the report. Make sure to read the entire thing here!

Exclusive: Felton on Draco & Harry’s Relationship & More

Posted by Dijares On July - 10 - 2009

Tom FeltonWe, along with SnitchSeeker.com and DanRadcliffe.co.uk, had the pleasure to ask Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films) a few questions today while he attended the Hot Topic signing in Paramus, New Jersey today. You can see some photos of him at the event here. We also have video of some questions we asked him.

I asked him why he felt that Draco acted like he didn’t recognize Harry when Harry’s face is distorted in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Raadhika from DanRadcliffe.co.uk asked if he did all the stunt work himself or received any special training for the Sectumsempra scene in Half-Blood Prince. Katiebell from SnitchSeeker.com asked him if he was looking forward to filming the Malfoy Manor scene with Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius) as one Malfoy family unit in Deathly Hallows.
