 According to an article posted by Irish Central, Fiona Shaw (“Aunt Petunia” in the Harry Potter films) has not left the world of magic and fantasy just yet, for she will be starring in the award-winning HBO series True Blood as “Marnie”, a medium and palm-reader who will be taken over by the spirit of a strong witch.  The show is a drama series depicting the co-existence of vampires and humans with a focus on the love story between Sookie Stackhouse (psychic waitress) and Bill Compton (vampire).  However, witches will start appearing in Season 4 this summer. 

The series is based on ”The Southern Vampire Series” by Charlaine Harris; and Ms. Shaw’s character doesn’t appear until the fourth book.  Coincidentally, the actress will start being seen in the role in Season 4 which starts Saturday, June 26 on HBO at 9:00pm EST.   Fans of the books may be disappointed that the producers and writers made Marnie quite a few years older to accommodate the prolific actress, yet I have no doubt her performance will more than compensate for it.  After all, her physical description is quite different than the one J.K. Rowling wrote for Harry’s snobbish and nasty aunt, but it’s hard for me to imagine anyone else in the role.

Fiona Shaw, who portrays Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter films, recently spoke with Times Online, in which she stated she’ll reprise her role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Oh, and there are the last Harry Potters to film. It’s a breathless schedule and she barely draws breath relating it, or much else, during our lunch. Thoughts and words flit, germinate, scatter.

As for the insane Harry Potter slipstream, she is almost dismissive. “Harry Melling, the young man who plays my son in Mother Courage, plays my son in Potter (they are Petunia and Dudley Dursley respectively), and we’re the poor relations. We never do any magic, we have it done to us. The odd thing is leaving the set and to see 3,000 people march on: 1,000 children, 1,000 parents and 1,000 minders. Alan Rickman and Maggie Smith sit there for hours waiting for them to file in. Honestly, I get more recognised for Three Men and a Little Lady than Harry Potter.”

Fiona Shaw and Harry Melling who portray Petunia and Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films are once again playing mother and son.  This time,  it is for a stage production of Mother Courage And Her Children by Bertolt Brecht (translated by Tony Kushner) and directed by Deborah Warner at The National, Olivier Theater in London.  Ms. Shaw stars as Mother Courage who is a woman that profits from the Thirty Year War in Poland.  Melling stars as her son “Swiss Cheese”.
