Early Pottermore Beta Access Begins!

Posted by Dijares On August - 15 - 2011

PottermoreThe Pottermore Insider has been updated to state that early access for beta testing of Pottermore has begun! If you haven’t received your email, no worries. They’re staggering them so they can properly collect the feedback for the site so you should get yours soon!

The reason for the beta testing is so they can gather feedback on the site. And feedback is very important. Here’s what they have to say:

We’re excited to announce that early access to Pottermore has begun, so if you’re one of the million people who found The Magical Quill and registered for early access, please read the rest of this Insider post carefully.

The most important thing to know is that we need to stagger entry to the ‘Beta’ (early) version of Pottermore so we can properly collect all the feedback. To begin with, we’ll be inviting a very small number of people onto the website, so you may not receive your Welcome email straight away.

We’ll be sending those Welcome emails out over the coming weeks and, once yours arrives, you’ll be able to log in and start helping us develop the Pottermore experience.

As Pottermore Beta users, you’ll be exploring all the different elements of the site and, hopefully, sharing your thoughts with us along the way. How? By using the ‘Beta feedback’ button. You’ll find it located at the bottom right-hand corner of every page on the site…

It’s important for us to know what you enjoy about the site, what you would like to see improved, and that you tell us about any parts you think aren’t working smoothly.

As well as the ‘Beta feedback’ button on the site itself, we’ll also send each Beta user a survey to complete, asking some detailed questions about the Pottermore website.

All this information will be collated and analysed to help make Pottermore as enjoyable, interesting and easy-to-use as possible.

They also gave an update for those that have registered with the site and will have access in October.

Very soon, we’ll be opening Pottermore registration for October. This means:

- If you have submitted your email address to be notified when registration is open to all, then you’ll be hearing from us soon, and you’ll be able to register for entry in October.

- If you asked to be notified when registration was open to all but also registered for Beta, then you may receive two emails from us. You do not have to register for October if you already have a validated early access (Beta) account. In other words, if you received a Beta ‘Congratulations!’ message then you can ignore the ‘Pottermore registration is now open’ email (although do feel free to forward it to your friends!).

Timeframe Given for Pottermore Day 4

Posted by Dijares On August - 2 - 2011

PottermoreSome of you have been lucky enough to get registered for the early preview of JK Rolwing’s new website Pottermore.

For some of us it was quite a challenge especially since the registration timeframe was in the middle of the night. I know that for myself, I continually woke up during the night on Tuesday so I could catch the Magical Quill.

To help those out who are in different time zones, the Pottermore Insider blog has updated their earlier post with the timeframe that Day 4 will open and also other information.

So far, all the clues have appeared in the early hours of the morning in my time zone. Will this continue for the remainder of The Magical Quill challenge?
We know that Harry Potter fans around the world are taking part in the challenge, so we will be varying the times that the clues are revealed. We can tell you that tomorrow’s clue (Day 4) will be released between 2.00pm and 6.00pm BST.

You can check out the world clock here to determine what time that is in your time zone.

Other information included in the update is different languages information and offers and/or ebay sales for early registration accounts.

If you are being offered an early registration account or are tempted to purchase one on ebay, please do not do this. It is not safe. You must make sure to protect yourself and not give out any personal identifying information to people you do not know.

Empire: 25 Greatest Harry Potter Characters

Posted by Lilysowl On July - 13 - 2011

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Snape A few weeks ago, Empire invited readers to vote for their favourite Harry Potter characters.  The results are now posted on the magazine’s site in the format of a photo slideshow.  Not only did he win MTV’s Harry Potter World Cup, Professor Severus Snape was voted #1 on Empire’s poll.  Hedwig was #25.  Harry was actually #3!  Can you guess who was #2?  Hint:  He is a Weasley.

Click here to see the slideshow and find which number your favorite Potter character is.

The slideshow is interesting with facts and trivia about each character and who portrayed her or him.  Even the bird (s) who portrayed Hedwig had a name.  As an example, here is the one for Snape:

Severus Snape

   Books: All of them

Films: All of them

Played by: Alan Rickman, Alec Hopkins, Ben Sharpe, Benedict Clarke

Alan Rickman was the only person other than JK Rowling to know, from the start, where this story was going. He had to, because Snape is a puzzle-box of a character, layering secrets and riddles over a heart that remains hidden until the very end. Let’s face it: even the sneering, supercilious outermost layer is a delight to behold, Rickman’s distinctive delivery squeezing malice out of every word (listen to his “Turn to page 394” in Prisoner of Azkaban). But then there’s his shocking turn in Half-Blood Prince, lashing out at the one man who always had faith in him and, without wishing to drop any spoilers, it’s fair to say that yet more secrets to Snape’s character will be revealed in Deathly Hallows: Part 2. It’s this slow revelation of unguessed-at complexity that has put the school’s most bullying teacher in the top spot on this list, in a testament both to Rowling’s writing and Rickman’s endless capacity for snark. We can only stand in wonder, and salute their efforts.

Trivia: JK Rowling said that Dumbledore allowed Snape to bully pupils because Dumbledore believes that, “There are all sorts of lessons in life … horrible teachers like Snape are one of them!”

Memorable Quote: “How extraordinarily like your father you are, Potter. He too was exceedingly arrogant, strutting about the castle.”

:) The slideshow is a nice way of reflecting back on our favorite characters as the Harry Potter series once again comes to a close with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in movie theaters this Friday, July 15.

Thanks to SouthernBets for the tip!
