Potter Films 5 & 6 Looking at Blu-Ray 3D Conversion

Posted by Dijares On October - 13 - 2010

Variety are reporting that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince are getting a 3D conversion for their Blu-ray formats.  According to the article, Warner Bros have contracted Prime Focus to do the conversion.

As reported previously, Warner Bros scrapped the 3D conversion for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 because they felt the conversion would not be done with the quality they expected by the film’s release date of November 19th.  So, instead of pushing back the release date, they instead have stopped the conversion.  However, the conversion hasn’t been ruled out for a later date.  They still expect Part 2 to be in 3D.

There’s still no release date for the 3D formats for the 5th and 6th films, and director David Yates isn’t expected to be able to start work work on them 2011.  Whether they’re going to release the films in the 3D format in theatres is still uknown.

Studio is keeping mum about its 3D plans for the “Potter” backtitles, including street dates for 3D homevideo and whether there will be a theatrical re-release for the series. With the final four “Potter” pics in 3D, however, conversion of the earlier pics seems likely. Just as Yates has had creative oversight of 3D on his pics, conversion of the earlier titles would likely require the involvement of Chris Columbus, Mike Newell and Alfonso Cuaron, who directed the first four in the series.

Two Harry Potter Movies Made Great Sequels

Posted by Lilysowl On August - 23 - 2009

Harry PotterEmpire has posted their photo gallery of The 50 Greatest Ever Movie Sequels – The Follow-Ups That Achieve Greatness In Their Own Right .  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is number 15:

Why’s it so good? David Yates took over the directing reins for this fifth film, based on the longest – and, some would say, dullest – book in the series, and knocked it out of the park. Excising large swathes of not much, he cut it down to one of the leanest films and delivered a barnstorming last act in the Ministry of Magic, with the sort of magical duels we’d been waiting four-and-a-half films to see.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is number 24:

Why’s it so good? Alfonso Cuaron took over from original director Christopher Columbus, and with the difficult task of world-building out of the way was able to take the story and run with it, making Potter feel like a real adventure story for the first time, and one taking place in somewhere bordering on the real world.

Seeing those photos of Gary Oldman as “Sirius Black” makes me cross my fingers that he will be seen in Deathly Hallows.
