Tom Felton Appreciates 2nd Nomination For MTV Award

Posted by Lilysowl On May - 4 - 2011

Tom Felton

We previously reported that Tom Felton is once again nominated for his portrayal as “Draco Malfoy” amidst the other nominations Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 has received for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards which will air Sunday, June 5 at 9:00 pm EST.  Here is what he told MTV about the honor:

”That’s awesome,” Felton told MTV News about the new nomination. “People have been voting, so it’s amazing.” . . .

And in response to the fans’ support and votes:

To his legions of fans that keep clicking over to the site and casting votes for Draco, Felton expressed his gratitude. “All I can send is my endless appreciation to everyone who is online and campaigning,” he said. “I really appreciate it. It’s an endless, sweet gesture, after 10 years, that Draco gets a lot of love. It’s ironic, in a way, but I love it and appreciate it very much.”

“In a way, even though he’s known as a slimy bully, he’s not really that villainous,” Felton added. “There’s actually a sweet little boy there. They love to hate me!”

So, go here and vote!  Voting ends Saturday June 4, a day before the award ceremony which will be held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California and hosted by Jason Sudeikis.

Tom Felton Talks About ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’

Posted by Lilysowl On April - 28 - 2011

Tom FeltonTom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is another Harry Potter star who plans to continue acting now that the Harry Potter films are completed.  And one of those acting jobs happened to be in the upcoming film Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes which will be released in movie theaters on August 5, 2011.  Now that the trailer has been released online, Tom Felton spoke to MTV about his role in the film.  Here is an excerpt from the interview:

MTV: It must also be nice to see yourself in a movie without Draco Malfoy’s bleached-blond hair.

Felton: It’s funny you say that, because the first time we went out to Vancouver for the screen tests, they had me there in the outfit and [director] Rupert was like, “I like it, but you need blond hair. I need you to look Californian.” I was like, “Seriously? Really?” He was like, “Yes!” And I was like, “OK, if that’s what you want.” Then he digged me in the ribs and [said] he was just winding me up. So we got off to a good start, me and Rupert. But he was the first one to say we want you looking as different as possible. That was nice, because he wanted me based on what he’d seen previously in “Potter” but also something completely different.

MTV: Is there one scene that you’re particularly excited about?

Felton: There were so many. You know, I’m used to “Potter” secrecy, but this is even more so. They’ve got me under lock and key on this one. There’s no book, so no one knows the story. I had some great one-on-one scenes with Andy Serkis, who plays the lead ape, Caesar. Those were amazing, because not only was he doing the body movements flawlessly, but also facial expressions and sounds.

MTV: Was it always guys in motion-capture suits or did you ever have to act opposite a tennis ball or the thin air?

Felton: It’s such a strange system. They film it all with the stunt performers who have learned for six months how to move like an ape. It’s actually quite scary, watching a dozen men bouncing around the room like apes. They’d film that three times, then we’d film one blank where it’s just the humans, then they match up stuff. They have an army of guys with notepads marking all sorts of numbers and graphs and stuff. I don’t know how they pull it all off in the end. It’s crazy!

MTV: Tell us about your character. You play Brian Cox’s son?

Felton: Yeah, when Caesar, our lead ape, gets too big for James Franco’s character to look after anymore, they have to put him into a facility. Brian Cox, who plays my dad, owns it, and I work there. Needless to say, I’m supposed to be looking after the apes, but I really don’t do that job very well. I don’t get on well with them and I’m not that friendly with them. I’m kind of what instigates Caesar’s revolt against humans. Before that, he only knew James Franco’s character. He thought all humans were going to be friendly and nice. It’s through my father and my character that he learns the perils of humanity and how bad we really are.

Felton, Yates & Heyman Discuss End Of HP Films

Posted by Lilysowl On January - 7 - 2011

USA Today spoke with Harry Potter star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), director of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 David Yates and the producer David Heyman who commented on reaching the end of the Harry Potter films.

“The decision to split this into two was purely a creative one. By doing two, there’s more detail and more time to engage with the characters in the way that we do,” says producer David Heyman. “It allows the audience time to bring themselves to it. The audience has the time to project their own feelings and engage with the characters.”

Asked if he’s feeling nostalgic, Yates says, “I don’t think we ever took it for granted. We’d sometimes joke about what we’re going to do when it’s all over. We’ll never have this amount of resources again. We’re going to have to go back into the real world, after living in this bubble.”

“One of the greatest gifts that Jo Rowling and the whole franchise has given (the actors) is that we can really end up making a kid’s night just from saying hello,” Felton says. “I was 12 when we started shooting; 13 when it came out. I’m 23 now. It’s been a long journey.

“You don’t see people growing up, not when you’re there. It’s only when you look back at the films. … Look at Daniel! He was bloody tiny. My face was like a basketball. But those angelic features seem to have left me,” he jokes.

”The last film will be it. It’s never going to be like this again. You never take this for granted,” Heyman says. “You want to do the end justice, so there’s a little bit of anxiety.”
