Empire Magazine have posted a sneak peek at their Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows feature edition which also includes a set visit. The peek also includes some new photos with Harry, Ginny, Lupin, Scrimgeour, and more! You can see in our gallery starting here.

We now have scans of the article, thanks to DR.com. You can see them in our gallery starting here (caution for **spoilers**).

In the article, Dan Radcliffe talks about how it took 95 takes to complete the 7 Potters scene.

“We did 95 takes on that one shot; it counts as the same shot because the camera is programmed to do exactly the same thing each time. We were betting on how many takes we’d end up doing. No-one won because no-one had guessed that high. But at the end of the day they showed us a primitive version of the scene and it’s brilliant,” he said.

The article also includes new photos of Rupert Grint, looking like a very angst-driven Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson, looking bloody and beat up.

Rupert talks about the different character Ron is in this film.

“It’s hard for Ron, I think, because if he wants to be a loyal friend, that means he has to sacrifice seeing his family, and that’s something he’s worried about. You begin to see his paranoia and he sees Hermione and Harry getting closer and he’s not quite fully trusting of Harry’s ability. Things begin to get a little bit heated. But then the fact that they’re arguing makes them feel a bit more human,” he said.

He also admitted that he was the last to read the last book.

“I think I was the last one to read it. I don’t know why I didn’t, beause I’m a big fan of the books; I’ve real all of them. But I was nervous because I’d been hearing so much about characters dying and not making it through to the end. And I wanted Ron to survive!”

Of the story, he says, “It turns into a bit of a war film. The castle is on fire with rubble and bodies littered everywhere - and they’re all kids as well! It’s quite moving. Really intense.” Sort of Saving Private Ron? “Definitely! They’ve also changed the way the spells are done. Before we had a ballet choreographer who was quite camp, but now it’s much more aggressive and swordfighting-inspired.”

They also had a chance to speak with Emma.

“The film opens with Hermione wiping her parents’ memories [of her] and leaving their house. You don’t read that in the book, you just know she does it. That’s a scene that Steve (Kloves) and Dave (Yates) wrote for the film, which I was happy about because you see the sacrifice that Hermione and Ron make to be Harry’s friend. You see Ron’s home and Harry’s. But you never really get a sense of Hermione’s life outside Hogwarts, outside friendship, and it’s important. She’s not just going off to school for another year. You’re choosing between family and friends; it’s pretty brutal. They offer her a cup of tea, completely unaware that anything’s about to happen, and then I cast a spell that wipes their memory of me. There’re photos all around the room, actual childhood pictures of me, and they just dissolve. It’s horrible. And then I have to shut the door and walk out alone.”

She continues, talking about the emotional parts of the film and how hard they are to do.

“The emotional stuff is much harder. These last two films have been on a completely different level in terms of what they’ve demanded from me physically and emotionally. I did a scene where Ron’s had half of his body splinched (the reult of an unsuccessful disapperation), and he’s drenched in blood and my hands are covered in blood and my friend’s in a huge amount of pain in my arms, I’m trying to save him. I also get tortured; I’ve never had to do a torture scene before. And then physically…There were huge amounts of physical exertion for, like, days on end, you know, working with explosives because there are so many fighting scenes. When the spells go off, they have tons of pyrotechnics and it’s scary. No acting required; it’s absolutely terrifying. I felt like I was in the army. So yeah, it was a very, very demanding shoot.”

She then gives a bit of insight to Hermione and Ron’s kiss.

“I suppose I understand. This kiss between Hermione and Ron is highly anticipated, it’s been building up for eight films now. And Harry Potter, it’s not Twilight, you know; we’re not selling sex. So, whenever there is any hint of that, everybody gets terribly excited. In fact, it was horribly awkward; we couldn’t stop laughing. The nicest thing about it was, before we did it, we turned to each other were like, ‘God this is going to be awful, isn’t it?’ But hopefully it will look good.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 will be released on November 19, 2010 and Part 2 will be released on July 15, 2011.

JK Rowling has donated £10 million ($15.5 million) in order to start up a new Multiple Sclerosis (MS) clinic at the University of Edinburgh. The clinic, which will be named The Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic after her mother who died from complications of MS, will conduct research for the disease. It will also research other diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntingdon’s.

Jo made a statement about the clinic earlier today.

“I have just turned 45, the age at which my mother, Anne, died of complications related to her MS,” Rowling said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I know that she would rather have had her name on this clinic than on any statue, flower garden or commemorative plaque, so this donation is on her behalf, too; and in gratitude for everything she gave me in her far-too-short life.”

“I cannot think of anything more important, or of more lasting value, than to help the university attract world-class minds in the field on neuroregeneration, to build on its long and illustrious history of medical research and, ultimately, to seek a cure for a very Scottish disease,” Rowling said.

According to the conference’s Facebook page, Harry Potter stars Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), and Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) have already confirmed their plans to attend the event and participate in the talk sessions opened to the guests. There will also be speakers who have worked on the Harry Potter films such as some of the actors who were the French “voices” for the Harry Potter stars.

Photoshoot and autograph sessions also will be on the agenda to give attendees the opportunity to meet the special guests. To give the conference a “magical” atmosphere, an orchestra will be playing music from the films while there will be games to be played, contests to be won, and magic shows to be seen. And one of the highlights of the conference will be Un Bal des Sorciers (A Dance of the Sorcerers/Sorcerers Ball) by invitation only!

It is noted that you don’t have to speak French to attend or have a good time.

DR: I was just in L.A. for the first time in my life. I went for the premiere of the fifth [Harry Potter] film, but other than that, I’d never really gone there before. So I went for five days and did my first round of meetings and going to studios. It was very exciting.
OLJ: You just made your first trip to Hollywood?
DR: People seem to have a very bizarre perception of me — that I’m a Hollywood actor. I don’t think of myself that way. And when I was out there and telling people it was pretty much my first trip, jaws just hit the floor. They were looking at me like I had two heads.

OLJ: What kind of music are you listening to these days? You’re always passionate about your artists.
DR: An English singer-songwriter called Frank Turner. He’s absolutely brilliant. Oh, the Drums — I quite like a couple of songs by them. The Divine Comedy’s new album is really, really good. It’s called Bang Goes the Knighthood, and it’s very, very funny and sad. And of course, I’m still listening to Florence and the Machine. “My Boy Builds Coffins” was a song I listened to a lot this year when I was playing Harry. It felt like the right tone.

DR: There is a novelty factor, almost, with some people. I grew up in a world where I was aware of gay and transgender culture from a very young age, because I was brought up with a real mix of people around me. And people who have a huge, different range of experiences. But not everyone grows up in the same circumstances.
OLJ: That’s why you’re getting major points in tranny heaven for doing this interview, because it is exposure and it is important. Are we allowed to talk about your love life?
DR: Yes. It’s very uninteresting, but you’re more than welcome to.
OLJ: What’s happening?
DR: I was in a relationship with somebody for just about three years, and we broke up just shortly before we hit that mark. But [the breakup] was very amicable. At the moment, I’m just being single and running around chasing girls. [Laughs] I’m not getting too many responses, but, yes, I’m having a go. I’m also starting to go on dates for the first time. I’ve never really done it because all my girlfriends that I’ve ever met, I’ve met through work. So we got to know each other really well at work and then kind of ended up going out.
OLJ: What is it like to go on dates as Daniel Radcliffe?
DR: It’s quite nerve-racking because it’s not something I’m used to. Not that I struggle with talking, but I have this incredible anxiety about awkward silences and pauses and all that stuff, which I think everybody worries about. But I get quite wound up about that beforehand. I do actually manage to get quite chatty in the end — probably too much — and probably a bit boring. I just try to make girls laugh. That’s really the only thing I’m particularly good at on dates.
OLJ: Well that’ll give the ladies of New York City something to look forward to when you’re in town.
DR: [Laughs] I can’t pretend I haven’t thought about that a couple of times. I’ve already had people offering to set me up!

Rupert Grint, who portrays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, will make an appearance this Monday, August 23, at the London Apple store to help promote his film, Cherrybomb. The appearance is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. GMT. August 23rd is the day the film will be released on DVD in the UK and is the day before Rupert’s birthday.

UPDATE: We now have a few photos of Rupert at the event. You can see them in our gallery here (thanks to SS).

UPDATE 2: Thanks again to Snitchseeker, we are able to post videos from Rupert’s Meet The Actor panel discussion during his appearance at the London Apple Store. One fan from New Jersey wished him a happy birthday. Rupert mentioned the DVD release of Cherrybomb and the future of Harry Potter and Leavesden Studios. Also, he confirmed that Leavesden Studios is currently being renovated for the Harry Potter attraction and museum that will open in 2012. And of course, he had a few words about his relationship between him, Daniel Radcliffe, and Emma Watson.

Sometimes, it was hard to understand what was being said due to the acoustics of the place so here is an excerpt:

Are you working on anything currently?
Rupert: Not actually right now. I’m enjoying some time off. I might be doing some things maybe next year.

Any singing? Musicals?
Rupert: When we were in Florida I did karaoke. “I Got You Babe” … It was quite nice until I found it on youtube.

On the last two reincarnations of The Doctor, it sounded like he wanted to be ginger. If offered the role, would you take it in Doctor Who?
Rupert: I would do that, yeah. I haven’t seen much of the new ones.

Did you take some memorabilia from the set?
Rupert: Yeah, I did. They’re really quite strict with what you take. You have to be quiet, obviously. I got from Privet Drive the Number 4.

Have you ever thought about going to any acting school? Not that you need it.
Rupert: Yeah, I have thought about it. When I started it was a bit of a fluke really. I just sent a video of me doing a rap to Newsrounds … I can’t actually remember all the words. It was basically just a lot of information of me that rhymes. Yeah, I sent it in to the casting people. Being on set has been a real education really. It’s been incredible being on set.

One of your Japanese fans touched your eyelash. What did you feel?
Rupert:She won a competition to come and meet the cast. And she was quite excited about my eyelashes. She touched them … It was quite strange.

If you were a type of cake, Rupert, what cake would you be?
Rupert:I’d be a Victoria sponge.

Would you consider doing a series of films like the Harry Potter ones again, or would you want to stick to single ones like Cherrybomb?
Rupert: Yeah, I would probably consider it, if it wasn’t a wizard one.

There was a test screening today of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I in Chicago, Illinois. According to our friends at MuggleNet, the special effects were not completed yet so occasionally the viewers would see the green screen in some of the scenes. Also, the movie was 2 1/2 hours long. It ended exactly where the article in Entertainment Weekly was quoted to have said it would end (Spoiler).

Representatives from Warner Bros. which included the company’s president Alan Horn and the film’s director David Yates also were at the event to observe audience reaction.

Spoiler Alert: Here is a summary of some other things our MuggleNet friends had to say about the screening:

The pace of the movie and the performances were good.

It is “hands down” the best Harry Potter movie.

Kreacher is definitely in the movie.

The 7 Potters scene was perfect. The transition of levity to darkness of that part in the story had a good pace.

Hedwig’s death had more emphasis in the movie than in the book.

The split is definitive. Right after Dobby is buried, there is a scene of Voldemort taking the elder wand from Dumbledore’s grave and shooting it in the sky before the film ends.

Adult characters were great, especially Lupin at Mad-Eye Moody’s Death. Kingsley’s announcement about the Ministry at Bill and Fleur’s wedding was effective. And Umbridge’s appearance in the film was great.

The film definitely had a different feel to it with the trio roaming all over London.

The scene of Ron destroying the horocrux with the smoky figures of Harry and Hermione was impressive.

And speaking of the scene with Ron destroying the horocrux, here is a review a fan posted on her Twitter account:

The movie wasn’t completely finished yet. You saw green screen in some parts & the effects aren’t done. The music wasn’t real either.

One of my fave scenes? Harry cheering up Hermione by dancing with her in the tent. (Was that in the book?)

I saw more of Voldemort in this movie than ever.

When Harry opened the locket horcrux, that was disturbing. Especially for Ron who had to kill it. It was like a Harry/Hermione shipper dream

Dobby’s death? I sobbed like a baby. D’: Every scene Dobby was in, the audience clapped. Never realized how much he was loved.

Ron & Harry’s fight was hard to watch. Poor Hermoine was devastated. But you could see how worn out Ron was. You couldn’t blame him.

Bellatrix is nuts as always. Totally cringed when she was torturing Hermione. (But Helena Bonham Carter is just too good)

UPDATE: SlashFilm also has a report from the screening. Here’s what their report from ‘Kyle’ had to say (**spoilers**:

I was lucky enough to get invited to a secret test screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I at the AMC River East in Chicago this afternoon. We weren’t told what movie we would be seeing until seconds before it started, but my friends and I suspected that it may be Harry Potter due to the Warner Bros signs and the intense security. When producer David Heyman walked in, I was pretty sure what it would be. Director David Yates was also in attendance, and spent some time talking with fans outside the theatre after the film.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is a great continuation of the series, thematically and visually in line with films 5 and 6. Though it is a fast-paced film, with several nice set pieces and much-improved performances from the young cast, it does suffer from two major problems. First, it faithfully adapts the seventh book, including the book’s own problems. The “camping in the wilderness” scenes become quite repetitive, and the attempts at drama/angst amongst the trio during these scenes comes off as tired. Also, the scenes involving the locket horcrux causing its wearer to be angry/aggressive are far too reminiscent of Lord of the Rings.

All three young stars acquit themselves admirably, however, doing the best they can with the material. Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, in particular, are quite good. The second problem with the film, and this may be fixed by the time the final cut is released, is the editing. Some scenes feel utterly rushed and incoherent (Godric’s Hollow, for example). Others go on for far too long (Ron becomes jealous, etc.). There are several flashes / dream sequences that demonstrate Voldemort’s search for the Elder Wand. These are bizarrely edited and poorly executed. Luckily, they are just a small fraction of the film.

Despite these issues, this was a quality film on par with films 5 and 6, both of which I quite enjoyed. As with those films, the cinematography is beautiful. There are several creative and dramatic shots throughout the film, so that even if one gets bored, you could just stare in awe at the scenery. The beginning of the film is also quite exciting, including some hilarious scenes with multiple “Harry”s, and a series of great action sequences. The visual effects were not completely finished in these sequences, but I imagine it was quite close to what the final version will be. Another effective sequence involves the trio escaping to a small cafe in London, and a resulting fight that involves wands and spells but feels more like a shootout.

The film ends at a very appropriate spot, and though not exactly a “cliffhanger”, left me greatly anticipating Part II.

At the end of the film, we all filled out lengthy questionnaires regarding our opinion of the film overall (I gave it 4/5), as well as our likes/dislikes with the performances, scenes, and other aspects.

Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) recently spoke with Empire Online about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In the interview he gave more information on when the split of Parts 1 and 2 will occur. If you recall, our previous report stated that the split will occur around Chapter 24, where (**spoiler**) Voldemort takes Dumbledore’s wand from his grave, and the next chapter goes into the Gringott’s break in.

Here’s some of what he had to say:

“The first one is a weird road movie kind of thing,” he said. “Compared to the second part it’s slower paced, but that’s only relative. It’s more of an exploration of the relationship between the characters. You see those friendships tested for the first time.”

And what of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Deux? “The second one is this non-stop rollercoaster of battles and heists. It starts off as this heist movie and turns into this all-out war.” So there it is: Fear And Loathing meets Ocean’s 11 with Muggles and wizards. We think.
