When Harry first read the note after Dumbledore's death, didn't it say the locket was already open, but Harry just figured it was the pressure from the fall that caused it to open, or something like that? It seems to me to be something that J.K. would do to throw off the reader. But that would mean someone had already read it, and maybe didn't stick around after they read it because they knew who R.A.B. was. I'm not really sure where I'm going with this but it is just J.K.'s style of writing that had me thinking.

I still think R.A.B is Malfoy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Malfoy probably tricked Rosmerta into writing it for him because she was under the Imperius Curse.

I think R.A.B. is also Regulus Black. It may, or may not be the locket they couldn't open from book 5, in the Black family home.
Conjecture: It could be that Regulus figured out it was a Horcrux. Remember in HBP that DD and HP were discussing Horcrux's. DD let on that most wizards whom performed the act of making a horcrux only did it once. So they wouldn't know there were other horcruxes at that point. Finally, when Harry tells DD about his experience with Voldemort in the graveyard, about V going "further than any other wizard to obtain immortality", that DD finally understood how Voldemort came back. But ya, I agree that it most likely points to Regulus. |

I don't think it's Regulus because that just seems too obvious for Jo. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) I'm sticking with Malfoy and let's see what happens.

Interesting. An article that was put up on Mugglenet last Monday never made it to these Boards. I'll copy and paste it for you here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
QUOTE RAB revealed? Following the release of the sixth Harry Potter book, rumors have been abuzz concerning the identity of RAB, the mysterious character who left a note in the cave in the novel's closing chapters. So far, JK has remained relatively tight-lipped on the subject, although she said Regulus Black, Sirius' brother, was a "fine guess" in the MN/TLC interview last summer. Subsequently, "Arcturus" was suggested by fans as the late Death Eater's middle name after the name of a certain star. Now, the Portuguese HP translator, Isabel Nunes, has reportedly confirmed this in an interview with a Portuguese fan site. Apparently, before Book 6 hit shelves, she contacted Jo about the character's gender, and was told the full name as well as the gender. Her reason for shedding light on the topic at this point is to "keep awake" the excitement for the seventh book. In the past, Nunes also clarified that Blaise Zabini is a man and Professor Sinistra is a woman. But remember, it isn't from the horse's mouth, so it doesn't necessarily have to be true. Though I'd say considering the source, it probably is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I seriously don't think Jo would give away that much information. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Man, if I would've talked to Jo! Haha!

Hey because JKR is very good at twist and turns how do we know that it could be three different people. And these people were right under our noses. Like Ron, Arthur and Bill?

I highly doubt it would be Ron, but like you said, Jo is very good at twisting up the plot. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I still think it was Malfoy because he's always shown cowardice.

Also think of all the people begging with R, A, B that we think are on the good but are on the bad. It could be a possibility. |

Ron, Bill and Arthur bribed? Are you serious? Come on! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
As for multiple people, I've tried that. But you still get the problem of the note consistently saying "I." Yes, it could be more than one person trying to fool V., but I think it's just grasping at straws. |

I don't think they would be bribed by money! I mean Ron has always talked about being rich, but do you really think Arthur and Bill would let him. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

But what I don't get, is how did R.A.B. get to the locket without drinking the potion? Maybe that means that R.A.B. was close with Voldemort at the time he hid the Horcrux, otherwise, they wouldn't have known either how to re-make the potion or get the locket without drinking it.

It's amazing to me that this still goes on and on...
It's Regulus. The non-english versions have consistently had the final initial be the same as Sirius's last name in PoA. French: "n" for "noir" German: "s" for "schwarzes" Dutch "z" for "zwart" Italian "n" for "nero" Spanish "n" for "a word i'm apparently not allowed to use" Anyone with a foreign version, or access to one is welcome to look it up... But one thing... Don't be so sure Regulus is actually dead... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) |

I really need to go back and start reading from GoF through HBP. Too much I've forgotten. |

Well, I must contradict myself...
I hate to do it, but someone else will soon enough... Regulus has to be dead. Otherwise Harry wouldn't have control over Kreacher... Dang... another theory bites the dust! |

Sirius was the first boy of the Black household right? It said that the house was handed down to the next male in line with the name Black. Which would be Sirius. Sirius however broke with his family tradition by leaving the house to Harry, in his Will. So I don't think you should concede that point just yet. We wouldn't know if the house would have passed to Regulus, since it was Will'd out of the family to Harry.

Well...
I guess if Sirius had handled his will correctly, it could have passed to Harry... You're right on that one, so I suppose it's possible. But, now that I think of it again... (am I about to contradict my contradiction? Why... yes... yes I am!) If Dumbledore knew that Regulus was alive and had hidden Regulus from Voldemort for years... Regulus might have ordered Kreacher to follow all of Harry's orders... In fact... What if DD knew that the locket was already gone from the cave? What if the elaborate ruse is all for Harry's benefit, DD knowing full well that Voldy may be able to see every bit of Harry's mind and memory, since Harry is not too adept in the realm of Occlumency... OK... now I've got a head of convoluted theory steam... I'm thinking this one through though before I get too far into it... |
