I may have missed it on my first reading, but do we know for sure who is the secret keeper for 12 Grimmauld Place? For some reason, I assumed it was Dumbledore, but I didn't know if there was a specific mention in the book. If not, I'd be interested in thoughts on who the secret keeper may be.
Thanks! |

I don't think there is a secret keeper for Grimmauld Place. I think it's well guarded and if there was a SK then I think only the SK and the owner of the place(Sirius) would be able to go there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) I may be wrong, but let's see what others think about this. I don't remember reading about it needing a SK.

I guess I assumed it was Dumbledore. Harry couldn't go inside until he was "told" the location by Dumbledore (otherwise Moody would have just told him). But, Sirius would have had to have known where it is. I think that maybe, as long as you're told by someone else who knows, you would inturn know. Sorry, I'm having trouble explaining what I mean (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) .
Ok. Edit time. This is from JKR's official site, from the author herself; QUOTE When a Secret-Keeper dies, their secret dies with them, or, to put it another way, the status of their secret will remain as it was at the moment of their death. Everybody in whom they confided will continue to know the hidden information, but nobody else. Just in case you have forgotten exactly how the Fidelius Charm works, it is "an immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless, of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it" (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) In other words, a secret (eg, the location of a family in hiding, like the Potters) is enchanted so that it is protected by a single Keeper (in our example, Peter Pettigrew, a.k.a. Wormtail). Thenceforth nobody else – not even the subjects of the secret themselves – can divulge the secret. Even if one of the Potters had been captured, force fed Veritaserum or placed under the Imperius Curse, they would not have been able to give away the whereabouts of the other two. The only people who ever knew their precise location were those whom Wormtail had told directly, but none of them would have been able to pass on the information. So whilst Sirius knew the location, he was unable to tell anyone. As DD wrote the letter to Harry I believe DD to be the secret keeper. And you've got it right. DD was the SK for the Order. They only people who knew of GP's location were those he told. And as we saw, he told Harry with that little piece of paer and now that DD is dead, only those who already knew the location will be able to access it and nobody new will be able to learn the location since DD is not able to reveal to them the location.

Did you just simply repeat someone elses question?
QUOTE QUOTE(Harry @ Feb 3 2007, 07:02 PM) Isn't Grimauld Place under a invisibility charm? Yeah ist that under invisibly thing : And yes it is. Just like Hogwarts. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have a secret keeper too. I'm sure it has many many enchantments on it, un-plottable, secret kepper, invisible. The list could go on. |

Someone else asked that question? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Anyway...I now get it. Since I love plot twists...let's think of someone else, shall we? How about...Aberforth? Who am I kidding? The SK for Grimmauld Place wouldn't be a too suprising plot twist in DH. |

If the Secret Keeper is Albus Dumbledore and he's dead (Or so we think). Wouldn't that make Grimmauld Place the perfect spot for Harry to hide from Voldemort?
That's if Harry goes into hiding (Who knows?) Not just Harry though, the other members of the Order that are Voldemort's hit list Maybe Moody? |

it said that Dumbledore is the Secret Keeper. That's what that peice of paper was, it was from Dumbledore so that Harry could see the house.
