What was the new director thinking when he casted the new dumbledore? Was i the only one who sat in my seat thinking thats not Dumbledore? I was outraged. Dumbledore is supposed to be the wise wizard who you feel safe around. When Dumbledore is there you know that everything is going to be okay. What were they thinking? That guy was a joke, a complete joke. He didnt even talk like dumbledore. and dont even get me started on sirius, my favorite charachter in the whole book. Was i the only one who pictured sirius tall dark and handsome (and a bit scraggly) :( I think the new director has butchered the movie and there going to have to show us some pretty spectacular reviews for the next one B/c i don't even know if i want to see them butcher the fourth book after this. I know they cant make the movie long but they could have skipped all those stupid romantic scenes that arent supposed to be in there. I waited foreve for lupin to sit harry down and talk to him about how he and his dad had been friends, and what about at the end when harry tells his uncle about his convicted murderer godfather, thats one of the best parts. Mandy :( |

IMHO it was still a very good movie, if you consider how long it would be if they put in EVERYTHING...
A friend and I have been scripting the entirety of the book for something to do during our holidays... 201 pages in and we've only just gotten to Hogsmeade for the second time... Think about it. :sorry: |

First, in addresing the exclusion of many scenes in the film that were in the book, I can only say one thing. And that is, this is the shortest of the three Harry Potter films. So why was it the shortest? Does everyone know how much stuff you can put in just a few minutes of film time? Lots. This is why I thought Cuaron did a bad job as director. Did the guy even read the book? Because if he had, he could easily have found ways to include lots of additional information in the film that is not only interesting but important to the next films.
Does everyone realize that PoA is 20 minutes shorter than CoS? Do you know how much stuff you can add in 20 minutes? Tons of stuff. So why did Cuaron make the film so short? Because the guy is clueless and didn't care about how important the information he left out is to the next films. Secondly, yes, the new Dumbledore was a huge disappointment for me. He didn't look or sound like Richard Harris. I mean, if you have to replace an existing character, the very least you can do is make sure the make-up and the wardrobe matches the character from the previous films. Also, what was the point of the bows in the new Dumbledore's beard? And why wasn't the beard white like the previous Dumbledore? I could go on but I think I made my point. Clearly, there was a better actor out there that would have done a better job than this new guy. And who's fault was all this? The director. He's got an ego problem and as such wanted to stamp his style all over the film, including radically changing the sets. That's another issue that made no sense. However, overall, I did enjoy the film and I will be buying the DVD. It's just that the film could easily have been better and that's why I'm upset. |

hhm, i dont think a director can make everyone happy when making a film, i heard (dont know where probably on here! ;) )somewhere that the new dumbledore didnt want to copy Richard Harris and adopted a slight accent as well out of respect for Richard as that is how he spoke in real life.
I think all the actors did a good job, after all they had millions of people waiting to critisise them about how different the film/characters were to the book! |

Yes the movie was shorter then the others even thought the book was bigger, and that was a disappointment, but I think we are going to have to get use to it. I don't know why they are doing this, don't know if it's at the directors discretion, or if WB has put a limit on spending or what, but I have a feeling if you are disappointed in the length of POA, you definitely are NOT going to like what is going to happen to GOF.

I really liked the film but you're right Paladin, it could have been much much better for the sake of a few more minutes. Now Cuaron has stuck his beak into it again and convinced WB to make GoF into one instead of two movies, as was originally intended grrrr. I also agree about the new Dumbledore......for the sake of continuity and the description of him in all the books, they should definitely have made his beard/hair white. Just another Cuaron ego trip?
Sadly, Shrek 2 has really overtaken PoA here in Australia. |

I do recall when CoS came out everyone was all over it because it was nothing like the book. It's not supposed to be 100% to the book, but t did stick remarkably close and what I imagined was there was there.
As for the casting choice of Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, I thought it was a really good choice of replacement. I mean if the poor guy hadn't died he still would've been playing him and everyone still would've complained anyway so I don't think there's much you could've done. I though he did have an air of mistiness to him, but I think it was the solid part out of the end, that really left us with nothing to judge him on his performance and how well he fitted into character. He's a different actor, none are all the same, therefore a new style is there. I personally thought this was the best out of the three, merely due to all the actors performances, most were down to scratch, those I didn't think were good, did have the true heart of the characters in the books. |

i dont think the director cared about the books at all he ruined azkaban!! i would have liked to have seen the same format as what peter jackson done to lord of the rings, by shooting an hour extra and releasing extended versions for us true fans who dont care how long it is. what do u all think?

YES! I would sit there watching the deleted scenes for hours if i could.
But if you think of the actors, and have them act loads of scenes that would be cut from the cinema play, i personally would be quite offended! GOF should be 3hrs long, that would be perfect. And for those little kids who need the toilet all the time- they went loads during POA anyway! :D |

I am major dissapointed about the new movie but more about the new Dumbledore; Richard Haris was perfect for the job he, will remaine in my mind the real Dumbledore :gandalf: , hip hip huray for Richard Haris (god rest his soul  ).
By choosing Michael Gambon for the role of Dumbledore they bucherd the hole movie(like someone sad). It's like choosing an old veteran of war wich a bomb exploded near his head and sadly became a bit too loud because of his hearing problems :) . He hasn't a mistiryous touch in his voice at all and he's a bit to short. He isn't made for this role at all, his nose is fat (Richard Haris's nose was like in the book  ). I'm very dissapointed also because of the fact that The director hasn't put the finale with Slytheryn in those 20 minutes spare time. Overall the movie was in my perspective Acceptable, but not awsome like the first(wich is my favorite). That's life.... :P |

Don't you know that Richard Harris died at the age of 72, about 23 days after his birthday because his birthday is October 1, and he died on October 24 (I think it's 24.) 2002. :(

I agree s16  And little kids go to see things like lotr at the cinema - at least there were little kids when I was there and if they can sit 3 hours in something like that then why cut down harry potter? Of course, Im not complaining any more. Sure I didnt like it that they could have had much more about lupin and co writing the map etc but theres no point crying over spilt milk. Is that an appropriate saying to use here? Thats how I feel anyway. The films will never be as good as the books so people should just get used to it and enjoy the films if they want to. If you think you wont like it ... its simple - dont see it. |

It's good to have debate and hear others opinions, be it over the books, movies, directors, the new DD, JKR or how long it's taking for the final 2 books to come out. I don't think it would be a very interesting discussion group nor attract many new members if everything was so 'clicky' that we had no option but to agree with those who think everything is just dandy, for fear of being berated.
