Umm... Not sure if anyone has posted this already, but just had this theory regarding Mark Evans (the boy who Dudley beat up in the fifth book, and who everyone thinks may be related to Harry).

Well, he was ten in the fifth book, right? So that means we may see him coming to Hogwarts in the sixth book (11 is the age that young wizards are accepted into Hogwarts!)

What do people think? And has this theory already been brought up?

Hi and welcome! This theory has come up quite a bit but since we moved here from our old boards I don't think anyone has copied it over. My opinion on the Mark Evans theory is that DD said there were no other witches or wizards living near Harry... it is possible though that the Evans family moved in after that statement was made... I don't know though. :slytherin:

Right, we've gone over this one, and I honestly believe we'll be seeing little Mark placing the sorting hat on his head come the next book - which means that we'll get to see the sorting ceromony - hopefully.

Notice, I say 'see' = humph, goes to show how much I live in the HP world.  :yikes: :harry:

Ah, Harry would love a little brother, it would be so nice, but true to her style, JK would make him 'pop his clogs' :col:

I've copied my view on this theory from the old boards frankly because i can't be bothered to type it.

Having re-read that chapter i have to say that, that was most probably a red herring thrown in by J.K. Rowling to throw us off the scent of her next book.
Also, if he did have a cousin, wouldnt it be strange to see or hear of him in Little Whinging? For 10/11 (however old he is) he had successfully avoided him.
Also, throughout the books, much is made of Harry's loneliness, having no parent's and family figures around him. Sirius was introduced in book 3. Harry only realised about the wizard world in book 1(i can hear those 'duhs' thank you very much), basically what i am saying is i find it hard a relative of his will appear in book 6. With all the references of the Durse;'s being his only living relative etc. JK would lose all credibility if she brought in another family member. It would be chilidlike of her, to change a structure of a book with so many references in previous books repelling the idea.

I will eat my hat if im wrong.

recall, however, that she has staed that much of the information that you hear is from the point of view of the speaker, and that point of view may not be correct. Answers from DD and hermione are usually the ones that are most correct. Although it is dd who has said this, it may be that there are others whose blood was so far removed that it wasn't shown.

Honestly, though, there is no way that she'd throw in the Evans name without there being any significance. She isn't like that.

Petunia has really tried, it seems, to totally separate herself from the magical world. So, if there were any family that had any connection to that world, she truly would not acknowledge it. I mean, she can't even say the M word, now can she? Silly lady. <_<

That's why Harry found it so strange to even be speaking anything about the magical world with her during Book 5. I think we'll see some changes with this, tho, as JKR would not state (during her chat) what Dudley saw during the dementor attack, which means he must have seen something, which means he must have some magic if he saw anything having to do with the dementy-whats=its.

It also points to the fact that the Dursleys and Harry WILL talk about this again. Maybe there will be another dementor attack, since Voldy cant attack him at Privet Drive, he might get his little minions to do it for him! :o

true about Mark Evans.

However, there is someone who will develop magic at a later age, which is very unusual (i'm thinking it will be dudley)

is that in an interview or something? or is just a theory? because i think it could be Petunia..... :o (wouldnt that be weird... she has spent almost her whole life hating magic, and she suddenly becomes a witch...)
