Nice guess, but nope!
Dobby did spy on Malfoy for Harry.. there was no choice from a trio... and creating isn't really a great choice of word for working, is it? - unless we're talking about only making cakes!!! 02:lol: And Dobby would probably be able to show some of his work to Harry.. doesn't he eat it every day? Hmm yes, mysterious lines 5 and 6... not Dobby.. although possibly written to sound a bit like him!!! "Happy am I when I'm slaving away, creating, creating, until break of day. To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use? I speak of my work for 'tis tried and 'tis true - alas and alack, I can't show it to you!" |

Hehehe! I like your thinking processes though! You'll get there... a bit of general knowledge and a bit of mythology will help with this riddle.
"Happy am I when I'm slaving away, creating, creating, until break of day. To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use? I speak of my work for 'tis tried and 'tis true - alas and alack, I can't show it to you!" |

Is it a witch?
Just the way it says ''I can't show it to you''. Like its telling us (reader) its their secret. Plus the way the use of 3 is used a lot. |

Good thinking but it's not a witch.

It's not the Thestrals..
"Happy am I when I'm slaving away, creating, creating, until break of day. To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use? I speak of my work for 'tis tried and 'tis true - alas and alack, I can't show it to you!" So, the riddle centers around someone/something and their work. What clues do we have about that work? To start us off, we know the work involves choosing something from a "trio" - in other words, choosing something from a group of three things. We also know the work "'tis tried and 'tis true" and that the someone/something cannot show us that work.. |

There are other reasons for someone/something not being able to show their work than permission or bans.. |

Perhaps.. then again there are even more reasons for not being able to show one's work.. including some incredibly obvious ones!
"Happy am I when I'm slaving away, creating, creating, until break of day. To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use? I speak of my work for 'tis tried and 'tis true - alas and alack, I can't show it to you!" |

Yes, that is ONE of the incredibly obvious reasons! I wonder why else SOMEONE/SOMETHING would not be able to THEIR work to us.. their work which seems fairly highly esteemed..

Just thought I'd post a "refresher" riddle, to give those brains a break from the one above.
I think it's quite easy but I've been proved wrong before! It's another wordplay, like the Red Cap, Diggory and unicorn ones and the clue is for a name.. 'to eliminate an evil, old lady' |

"Happy am I when I'm slaving away,
creating, creating, until break of day. To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use? I speak of my work for 'tis tried and 'tis true - alas and alack, I can't show it to you!" The riddle is neither the invisibility cloak nor the Mirror of Erised but thankyou for guessing Luna and thanks for the compliment! 01:) The hardest lines of the riddle are: "To start off my work of a trio I chose, then dark, fertile, festive.. oh which shall I use?" As I feel generous today, I'm going to help you out with them a bit. "Dark, fertile, festive" is refering to 3 different types of something that are are used to make the handiwork/creation the riddle's subject speaks about. For "dark" and "festive", general knowledge will help you out but I'd start with looking at "fertile" by referring to celtic mythology.. which held some things as powerful symbols of fertility.. Once you've worked out what fertile refers to, you'll know what the type of thing is and you won't actually need to solve the "dark" and "festive" part - as this is quite general (many things are dark and many things are festive!). "dark" and "festive" though are useful to cross check your answer - if you think you know what the type of thing/material used is, you can ask, is something in this type dark, is another festive? and if the answer's "no", think again! 02:D When you have the type of material you should be able to guess what the handiwork or creation of the subject is, and thereofre guess the subject. 01:) So, one thing from this group of things is used to make the subject's handiwork, along with something chosen from a group of three (seen in line 3).. this group of three should become obvious after working out what you think the handiwork is.. and when you know what the handiwork is, the subject of the riddle is dead easy to guess! 01:) but if you're stuck, have a go at: 'to eliminate an evil, old lady' |
