Looking for clarification. In Chapter 1 Ma and Pa Riddle die, along with their son Tom. Voldemort is Tom Marvolo Riddle. Tom's muggle father abandoned his mother when he learned she was a witch. Did he then marry again and have another son and name him Tom? Just wondering.

Tom Marvolo Riddle (Voldemort) killed his father Tom Riddle and his Grandfather Marvolo Riddle as well as his Grandmother. :darkside: Hope that helps! :D

nevillesaydie, What wickedwitchofthewest just said.

But I want to add, long ago, I thought the same way you did. But if you think about it, not enough time has passed for the argument to make sense. Voldemorts father being "elderly" when voldemort was described as young... the time would not add up.

Plus this topic has been discussed thoroughly before... just do a search for it on this board, its there.

Errrrrrrrrr (screetching tires), brings car to a halt - - - -

Regarding the Marvolo bit, I don't think it was ever mentioned that Marvolo was the name of Tom Riddle's father's father. (is that confusing, or what?)

I believe that Marvolo is the name of his mother's father ~~ hence, this name is a very HUGE clue to the ancestry.

One thing that does confuse me, however, is the Tom Sr. part, as it seems that the Sr. was young, didn't it? I mean, i'd have to go back and look at it. It just seemed he was a bit young. So, hence, I go back to the intentional mistake that JKR made (or was it a mistake) regarding the ancestry of Harry and Tom Riddle Jr (Voldemort).

:quiet: Me either. I think it could be either Tom Riddle's father or V.'s Grandfather on his mother's side. But it's easier to give everybody some sort of name instead of he is his father and his father is his father etc.... That just gets way to confusing.

Okay, I have to ask before I give an explanation for this, what exactly do you mean Dijares? I don't remember it saying Tom Sr. anywhere. I'm not saying it's not there, just that I have a TERRIBLE memory. Which part is it?

Oh! In the first chapter all it says is "grown-up son". But his parents were elderly. So he could've been up to, ummmmm, I would think 50 or so. Maybe as young as 40? I don't know. Hmmmmm. If it helps at all, you can be really young and be a Sr. If my hubby wasn't the third in line with the same name, his father would've been a Sr. at the tender age of 17. :yikes:

AND....Tom Riddle, Jr. used "avadra kedavra" on them...he must have been a 6th year at least, to do that...about 16 years old...so Tom Sr., his father, might have been 30-40 years old. So, Tom Sr. can be a full-grown son, but still be young, compared to his parents.
