In the movie Harry did not shake his hand. Argh the movies make the story harder to understand.

Maybe it's possibe that he could shake his hand then, because Voldemort wasn't strong enough inside Quirrel yet for the "LOVE" to burn him. Either that or because Harry had not started school yet, therfore he wasn't yet a trained wizard? Not sure why, but it is a great observation on your part martinmiggs101 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Possibly it's because V wasn't exposed when they shook hands, so he didn't need to defend himself then. Or maybe he wasn't actually being attacked by V, so his instinct didn't make the "love" thing work. These are the only possible theories I could cook up. I think that maybe you could combine them as in he wasn't exposed or attacking Harry, so he didn't need to defend himself.

If I remember correctly, Quirrel wasn't yet being possessed by V at the time he met Harry in the Leaky Cauldron. He was being controlled by him, but not yet possessed by him.

Right. And then at the end of GOF, V mentions how he made Quirrel bring him back to England and then after a while took possession of Quirrel's body.

Ahhhh clever! This reminds me a bit of Wormtail. He was too much of a coward to stay on the "good side". Poor, poor people.
