I was wondering what kind of education the children from magical families get before attending Hogwarts. I'm not sure if it was ever explained. Do the parents "homeschool" their little witches and wizards before leaving for school?

Sorry if this question has already been posted.

I dont know i guess the parents teach them couple of simple spells and stuff before they head off to school. Altough hermonie probably didn't want help from her parents she probably read every single book before she came to hogwarts. 02:D

LOL, Darkwizard. Since Hermionie considers Hogwarts: A history "light reading", I would guess that you're right. 02:lol: 02:toofunny:

Anyway, the reason why I asked is because in OoTP, chapter 38, pg 845-846, Fudge said in the Daily Prophet article, "We urge the magical population to remain vigilant. The ministry is currently publishing guides to elementary home and personal defense that will be delivered free to all wizarding homes within the coming month".
That made me think about early education for witches and wizards before they go to Hogwarts. And I've always been curious about what they learned before their formal education began. 03;)

Well if you're in a wizarding family, and you turn your sister's hair blue, or blow something up, it's pretty obvious you're magical. Like Neville was saying that his family tested him to see if he was a Squibb or Wizard, I doubt most families do that, but you'd probably be able to figure out early on if your child's magical.

What I would like to know is where wizarding family children would learn learn to read and write. Is there a wizard pre-school? (Doubtful seeing as how no one knows each other in the beginning) They don't go to muggle school seeing as how the school experience would render "Muggle Studies" useless. Also, some of the proud wizard families (like the malfoys) who wouldn't want their children hanging around the muggle filth.

All I know is that Mrs Weasley home-schooled her children before they went to Hogwarts (I read about that in another thread here at the forums). Don't know how other families did though.

i am not sure about the kids with wizard/witch parents, but i think they are just born with basic skills. i think the muggle-borns go to elementary school until they recieve their hogwarts acceptance letters.

I think I read in an interview with JKR that she said wizard children are not required to attend school prior to Hogwarts, but htheycan if they want.

but wizard born children do know how to read and write and the other basic stuff so probably their parents teach them or their parents make them go to regular school.

what i dont get is that hermione is half muggle so she must have gone to a primary school for muggles before she went to hogwarts so wouldnt the teachers wonder where she had gone and why she wasn't atending school anymore because the muggle teachers dont know anything about witches and wizards so wont they think that its strange if shes just disapered!! Im a muggle (obviously!)and if i didn't go to school then my parents would get phoned and maybe fined! So what about Hermiones parents?? 51:hermy:

No, they would just think she went off to a different school for middle school and highschool... like I know a lot of people go off to private schools and stuff once they are out of elementery school...so the teachers and everyone think shes going to private school

Yeah I think the parents do teach their children some spells. Like the unforgivable curses, and how to defend themselves, maybe just a little.

I think they would've told the teacher that Hermione was going to go to some other school before she left! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Well, wizarding families would probablly teach their children some things I suppose, but they would probablly not know really anything before they went to Hogwarts, but for Muggl families, they have no clue about them being wizards are not, ofcourse, that is obvious.
