Hi all, my 1st post here.
Ive got a question regarding towards the end of the book Harry throws the prophercy ball to Neville, who 'clutches it to his chest' and later puts it in his pocket. Now, later on, at dumbledores office, he tells harry that voldemort tricked harry into getting the sphere for him, since only the person who's name is on the sphere can hold if. if someone who's name isnt on the sphere, and they hold it, they will suffer maddness. how is it that neville held harries sphere, and didnt suffer madness? |

Welcome to HPP! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The reason why Neville didn't suffer from madness is because he didn't take it off the shelf. Only those to whom the prophecy refers may lift it from the shelf without suffering madness. Once it is off the shelf it is free to be handled by anybody. |

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that maybe, ravenclaw_princess, is right. There was a question mark at the end of the two names. Also, maybe WWW could be write, but I will be more sure if I read a quote. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) First of all, I need to remember who said the madness thing.

I think that WWW is right because when Harry is holding the prophecy the death eaters are trying to take it from him. None of their names are on hte prophecy so they would have suffered madness if they had gotten it. I think that the death eaters know what happened to Bode adn they know htat that only happens when trying to take it off the sheld and not when you are just holding it.

i think ravenclaw_princess + WWW are both right. i think only those it referred to could take it off the shelf, but it could have been harry and/or neville. therefore either could posess it.

Ok, so basically... only Harry, Neville, and V could take it off the shelf? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Just to keep the Prophecy question thing going and the topic, does everyone have a prophecy, as in all the wizards, or only certain people?

To answer your second question, I believe there are only prophecies about certain wizards. What I mean is, if someone made one involving Dean Thomas, then one would go in the Hall of Prophecy for him. But, if no one ever makes one involving him, then there won't be one in there for him.
I hope I didn't make that complicated, it's hard to explain. As for the first part, yes, Harry, Neville and V are the only ones that could take it off the shelf if they were involved. But, Neville is not involved in the prophecy, therefore, he would not have been able to take it off the shelf without going mad. |
