We all know the scar is very important, but do you think the shape has a meaning? A lightning bolt, what is that associated with, is there anything related to it?

I think that lightning is a very powerful thing. It can kill you instantly if you get struck by it. The AK curse is very powerful too, so a powerful curse is bound to leave a powerful symbol.

I had a theory on this one after reading HBP...

The lightning bolt shape is powerful indeed, but when I think of it in relation to a wound, it reminded me of an "exit wound"... This might be a bit gross yes, but when a bullet, for instance, goes in, the puncture wound is typically rounded. When it exits after going through a body, it doesn't have necessary force anymore to create a clean wound. So when it does exit the body, the shape is typically jagged, like a split seam.

My thought was that the AK curse, entered Harry, but upon encountering Harry's protected soul or the protective barrier Lily left, it rebounded and exited through his head...

It may be significant. Remember Marvolo's ring was cursed, causing DD to be unable to remove it at first. Later we see it on the table, and the stone is split (I can't remember the exact wording so I'll check the book later). Maybe the removal of a powerful curse has to leave a jagged mark, particularly when that curse is being removed from a horcrux...

I'm realizing this isn't very consistent with my Scar=Horcrux theory, but maybe someone can help me fill in the blanks....

Hey what about in HBP Chapter 27 it is called:"The Lighting-struck tower". Maybe the tower has soemthing to do with the scar.

It never fails. I finally archive or delete an ancient thread and the topic comes back to haunt me. Here is what Jo had to say:

QUOTE
Cathedral: Don't want to rune the ending, but will we be finding out more about the significance of the shape of Harry's scar in future books?
JK Rowling replies -> The shape is not the most significant aspect of that scar, and that's all I'm going to say!

We all know we have to wait till the seventh and the last book for the meaning. But there must me a little clue somewhere, wehave all missed out the lightning shape somewhere? (puzzled)

Maybe it's not the most important thing, but it may have some significance. Possibly the tower has something to do with after V killed Harry? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

on the exit wound theory it something i had too been thinking of. It was a lightning shaped crack if my memory serves well. i thik that's the mark left whenever one of his horucruxes is destroyed. And i think lilys protction destroyed the horocrux so there is actually only, i think it's 5 horocruxes left.
Harry will never have to destroy himself

How would Voldemort been able to turn Harry into a horcrux without Lily and James knowing? Assuming that Harry's scar or Harry himself were a horcrux, it would have come after Voldemort killed Lily and James.

I don't think Harry is a horcrux. V was planning on making his last on after he killed Harry. and I doubt you can make one by accedent. And do you think that V would try to kill someone that is a horcrux, you think he would be trying to protect him.
back on topic the lighting bolt scar. Here is what I found
"as divine weapons can be found in most mythologies" and "Jupiter/Zeus used his thunderbolts to strike down impious criminals and divine opponents"
and this is from a dream meaning site http://www.soulfuture.com/dream_dictionary..._dictionary.asp
"A symbol of enlightenment, emerging from the darkness into the light
The early, creative stages of a project
Initiating something
Anger or aggression
Lightning bolts are often used to warn of potential danger - note the surrounding symbology
Something extremely fast and powerful, lightning fast
Lightning may be a homonym for lightening something or needing to lighten up"
So I hope this helps
