I think that Lily could have easily chosen Snape. Unfortunately Snape didn't have the greatest upbringing making him very insecure. Therefore he was brought nder the spell of the deatheaters who made him feel strong and part of a family. Very similar to what today's gangs do. If it weren't for this, I feel there's a great possibility that Snape and Lily could have made it.
James was honestly spoilt. In the end, he ended up being much more mature, but he really was very immature while other boys were growing up a bit. |

I agree with you, Dijares. But I'm surprised you typed that because I thought I heard you mention on a podcast that you didn't think Lily would have ever chosen Snape under any circumstances. Lolol. Oh well, my mistake. It just affirms my belief that we were kindred spirits when it came to Harry Potter. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You both got it right. Yes Snape and James were both even when they met Lily, but there was some real differences that eventually made Lily's choice easier. Snape was friendless by chioce and then associated himself with people who did not respect others, especially those like Lily. He was more focused on James than he was on Lily at times, (as you remember half thier conversations were about her comparing him to James, which he did and not she). Then his beliefs about Mudbloods got stronger as he grew. Maybe it was his upbringing that taught him to slash out at the one you love when you in pain(if you have not read the book you have no idea what I'm talkin about), but that little hit caused the beginning of the end for him and Lily; that is when it all changed and that is why that was on the list of memories he gave Harry. As for James, while he was a typical spoiled brat and teenage boy, look at his friends; a rebel son of a house of dark wizards, a good boy who happen to be infected by werewolfism, and a boy that by all descriptions would not have a friend if he made them in a bottle himself. While this may have feed his ego, essential from all other reports James was a soild individual who stood up for others. A prueblood who was not buying Voldermort's line in those days seem to be unique. Lucius called him "mettlesome", which lets you know that he was not just tending to the court of king James. What Lily saw in James, and not Sev, was the ability to change. His core values were there but it was his ability to make choices based on what was "right and not easy" made him more appealing than a young man who had to watch Lily died before he chose her. And in the end she was right. It was James' defence of his friends that put him in oppossition to Voldermort. I think that this coupled, with the conveinance of the prophesy, made him choose Harry as a target. What did Sev do, instead of working to help what he messed up, he padded his bets by asking Voldermort to spare Lily, even if he killed her husband and son, and then he went and got DD to be his back-up just in case Voldermort was not a man of his word. This meant that however much he loved her his love for her was damaged in some way. Look at how he treated Harry. While he kept him alive, he essentially bullied him. Someone once said," you tell me how you love me in how you do more than what you say. If she had lived, I think that Lily knew that unless the one she loved showed real ability to make better choices she had no chance for happiness. Had she survived James we all know she would have ended up with Remus. I think Sirius was gay or bi, or at the very least was in love with James,so if she married him it would be because they shared a love for James. Sev would have had to totally change in order to become father to Harry, instead of the grudging god-father he became. A reformed Snape, yes, would have Lily, otherwise no.
