How would you like the movie to open? Options

Since the only news we currently have about the OotP opening, it's in the snow mountains.Well,seeing as it's a really hot summer in the 5th book, what's your opinion on why they will(PROBABLY)start the movie with a snow scenery?OK I'm actually here to ask...How would YOU like the movie to open up/start?

I'm betting that that newspaper might have got their facts wrong. I mean, we know the books always open in the summer. So either they were filming the first scene in the snow or they are opening with snow. If they're opening with the snow sequence, I'm betting that it will be Hagrid and Maxime on their way to the giants. I would personally like to see it open with a light theme. Start with the twilight sky, show the HP graphic, pan down to Harry walking down the street towards an alley. He looks down the alley as he turns the corner and sees Dudley and his friends walking and saying good-bye. Dudley's friends leave and Harry catches up with Dudley while taunting him a bit. Suddenly, everything appears to go black. The dementors attack and Harry fights them off. He brings Dudley back to the Dursley's house, then the Owls start to come. Whether they leave in DD's Howler or not is up to them. I don't know if it's going to be relevant to the overall main story they're trying to convey or not. But anyways, that all happens. Harry goes to bed, but hears a noise and goes downstairs to investigate. There he finds the Advance Guard waiting for him. Right before he leaves, Tonks knocks something over, waking up the Dursley's, and they get to watch Harry narrowly escape again before Vernon could properly punish him, infuriating Vernon. That's how I want to see it start. I know I changed some things from the book, but I'm trying to think of a way WB could do it and still make it decent. I mean, I'd love to have it straight from the book, but I know WB better than that. 02:toofunny: 03;)

Thanks! 02:D Maybe a couple of those things could change a bit, but I want them to keep the general idea. I mean, I don't think they're even going to include how the entire Wizarding world is against Harry and DD since they didn't show Fudge and DD arguing in the Goblet movie. It's a bit of a shame, but understandable since it's all forgotten about in the next book. 03;)

I think that OotP film will focus on the first and last parts of the book. The beginning is really important,because they must explain clearly the dementor's attack, the guard coming and quite a bit of Grimmauld Place and the order before the Harry's visit to MoM.
I think WWW got a good approach of the first half an hour of the film, specially if we can see a bit of uncle Vernon's purple face.

However, the central part of the book is where I think they'll make more cuts, so maybe the non-readers may not understand the deep hate students have to Umbridge (although I expect a brilliant acting from Imelda Staunton). But the thing is that with the two important visits to Hogsmade (Harry/Cho and meeting at Hog's head), a brief look of Harry's detention and a few more things like quidditch match against Slytherin or Mr Weasley's attack, there'll be only space for the final battle.

From the basis that they'll make a 3 hour film I'm confident they won't skip many important things

They could probably cram it all into ten minutes, depending on what they feel is important. Will they leave in DD's Howler? Will Petunia mention what she knows of the Dementors? Will they feel that Mrs. Figg needs to be there, or will they be able to have Harry get off the charges without her testimony? That is, if they even leave in the hearing. I really don't find it is all that necessary for the films (again looking at it from a WB POV) since he gets off anyway. Just like it isn't really necessary to put in how the wizarding world feels about Harry and DD's story since they completely change their ways by the end. But, judging on what was said by DD at Cedric's funeral in GOF, they might leave it in. It just all depends which is frustrating cause we just don't know what WB feels is necessary. To me, the things that are necessary are the Dementor attack, Grimmauld Place (I would think it has to be for WB as well since there may be a Horcrux there) and the Order, the D.A. at least once with a kiss between Harry and Cho, Mr. Weasley's attack, at least one Occlumency lesson (the one with Snape's memory obviously), Harry's interview with Rita, DD's leaving, the Astronomy O.W.L., Harry's visions and most definitely the happenings down in the DOM. I may be forgetting something important, so please forgive me for that. But, I feel that they could get all this done in about 2-2.5 hours. Which is perfect for them. But there are quite a few things more that they might put in because it is important like Harry's trial, the feelings of everybody toward Harry and DD, more exposure to members of the Order, more D.A. lessons, more detentions, more lessons with Snape, and more time with Sirius. But overall, what I really want to see are the Dementor attack, Grimmauld Place, Extendable Ears, (maybe) the Hearing, Skiving Snackboxes being used, Fred and George's exit, the fight at the Quidditch match and Harry's subsequent banning, the D.A., DD's leaving, Mr. Weasley's attack, Occlumency lessons, Harry's interview, the Astronomy O.W.L., Harry's visions, and I want the most time devoted to the Ministry and the DOM. I want that done right. If they skimp on that I will be very unhappy. I want to have the DE's there sneaking up on Harry when he picks up the Prophecy. I want the chase scene between the kids and the DE's. I want Harry cornered. I want the Order to come to the rescue. I want the Order and the DE's to battle. I want DD to arrive. I want Harry to rush after Bellatrix after Sirius falls through the veil. I want Harry and Bellatrix to duel. I want V. to show up. I want DD to show up in the Atrium without V. realizing it and make the statues move, especially the one that protects Harry when V. says AK. I want DD and V. to duel. I want it all and I want it done right. Greedy? Perhaps! But I don't care. I'm willing to sacrifice some things as long as that is done the right way. 15^_^

LOL You have NO idea how much I laughed while reading that post of yours WWW! And I agree with most of what you have said...but I don't think the interview is gonna be in the movie, since Miranda Richardson is not returning for OOTP. Unless they have Luna herself take the interview or something...or Hermione writing it down and handing it over to Luna or something, I don't know how they'll squeeze in the interview. But the interview and its consequences are among the BEST of Jo's works...sadly, I don't think it will make the movies.

She isn't coming back? Okay then. I don't follow that stuff as well as you do, Sriv. 03;) Okay, so scratch the interview. Bummer! I love it and its consequences too. Oh well! So, without the interview, I still really don't see any need for WB to put in the feelings of most that DD and Harry are lying. Personally I don't think they will. They might leave in a detention and the reason Harry is in it as a little tribute to it, but make it seem as though it is just Umbridge's feelings rather than mostly everybody's. But is there really even a need for that? Or I should say, does WB feel that there is a need for that? Do they feel that the Quidditch match needs to be in there? I don't think so. Yes, Harry gets banned, but he's back on again in HBP. Fred and George get banned and their brooms confiscated, and yes, they do use their brooms to leave, but will WB show that? If they do, then they'll have to show the Quidditch match, won't they? Unless they get taken for another reason. Or they can just save themselves the trouble of it all and completely cut out the detentions, the Quidditch match, the parting of the twins, and the feelings of the majority of the wizarding world and just stick to the main plot like they always do. Which is, of course, what I think they will do. It's been talked over before about how much of OOTP is sacrificable in WB's view and it is quite a bit. Unfortunately, a lot of it is the fun stuff. 05:(

mmm, i'd like it to open with harry's dreams about cedric, then the dream should change abruptly (as dreams always do) to the corridor in the dept. of misteries, harry running and knocking on the closed door, then, the big "harry Potter and the order of the phoenix", and harry walking and meeting his cousin dudley.
now, why do i think that is important to open with the dream? because all the people will be paying the biggest attention you can ask, and that dream in the corridors is important, they should show it each time they can...

I agree with everything that WWW has said though one thing I would LOVE to see but I doubt I will is the confrontation between McGonagall and Umbridge. That was the funniest part in OotP in my opinion; that and the twin's departure. Who knows. But I like the beginning that WWW has mapped out and maybe when he is dreaming and get awoken he'll dream the corridor scene...that way it all fits and he wakes abruptly. Other than that, it seems great.

I'm always surprised that they do as well as they do when translating these books into movies. I guess the only way they could include everything is to do a tv mini series.Who knows maybe they will someday.

I guess I think it should begin with Harry and Dudley being attacked by dementors. I really don't see how you could avoid that. As to the rest, I agree with WWW's assessment of what's necessary.

My fear is that they will exclude some of the characters. I would certainly be disappointed without a Luna Lovegood.

Does anyone know when this movie will be out? I haven't heard a thing about it.

They've cast Luna's part...so I don't think they'll be leaving her out at this point. And I have heard that it should be out in July of 2007.

All I would like to say is the movie will be longer than GOF,and they will show a long Pensieve scene during the Occlumeny lesson.I haven't read this book in about five months, so I don't remember much.And WWW,I don't recomend you ever use Fast Reply like I am! I think OotP should start where the Dursleys are watching the news, and Harry says, "Well that's news to me." That's one of my favorite parts. After that, it should go to where the dementors attack Harry and Dudley. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif)

Ok, I personally would love to see it happen exactly like the books, but I'm sure that won't happen.
