Okay, so the film's not out yet, but from the pictures I've seen, Staunton doesn't really look like how I imagined Umbridge. She looks more grandmotherly than I imagined Umbridge. Also, she doesn't seem fat and toady (I always pictured Umbridge quasi-resembling Marge from CoS) and doesn't have fat fingers bejeweled with rings - just one ring from what it looks like. And where's the black velvet bow? She looks cool if I hadn't read the book first, but after reading the book, it's a bit depressing to see how they cast her. What does everyone else think?

Moved this to Discuss the Characters, since Umbridge is a character.

OK. Well, Marge is in the POA, not COS. Anyways I know! The Umbridge they have for the movie is like the exact opposite of the Umbridge in the book. Have you seen the picture with her room, where Harry is held in detention? I really think (not to get off the subject) the principle from the movie Matilda (if she's still alive) should have done Umbridge's job (in my oppinion, not to hurt anybody). Or who played Marge? They could have used her! She would have been perfect. They just would have had to decise her more.

Well for you to be so angry is really not necessary. There is nothing we can do about casting, and anyway give her a chance, she is a very good actress and probably will do an excellent job.

I have to say, after watching the international trailer, she seems to be doing a good job. Wow, that little laugh - hehuh - gives me the creeps!

Wow, that little laugh - hehuh - gives me the creeps! Oh yeah, I agree with you Dij! I don't like her girly laugh, it gives me the creeps too! But she's playing the part really good. Looking forward to see the whole movie! Just two and a half months left! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Well, it is pretty depressing to know that the character is mean and nasty instead of the girly mean we all know, but she does seem like a pretty good actress, so from the people that haven't read the books I think it'll be great.(they should read more)

I haven't seen Imelda Staunton in anything, so I don't know what she's like, but I agree with Dijares, Imelda seems to be doing a good job from what we've seen so far.

I think her "girlish" laugh was a bit....eh. But I loved the bit where she's walking around Hogwarts, cursing all the students. And I love her clothes!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I think she'll do great! In the first released pictures, I was like, hmmm, ok, fair enough. But now, after seeing her in the trailer, I think she'll be outstanding! She looks great, and also puts on the character very well!

I think she's a pretty good choice, if she annoys you, isn't that a good thing? I mean we always have issues with alot of the characters, some people will love them, some people think a monkey could have done it better. But at the end of the day, there isn't much we can do, so we have to look past it and focus on the movie itself.

Exactly, I think we sometimes concentrate too much on individual characters, and lose focus on the main ideas of the movie. Of course there are going to be things that will annoy me, but I set them aside and just sit back and enjoy the movie on a whole. And like POA said, you can't change it anyway. I think the whole movie, from the trailers that is, looks fantastic. I for one hope Umbridge annoys me a lot, it means the actor is doing her job. |

Well, when I'm actually watching the movie then I don't think much about the characters. More the story. I'm one of those people that like to discuss seriously about little things in the movies, but when I'm actually watching I really don't care. All in all, I think that Imelda looks like a really good actress, but is lacking the girly side of Umbridge we have in the books.

Your right, Hermione@12. When I'm in the theater, I won't be saying out loud "Proffesor Umbridge is horrible for this." She could be good, but I don't know. If I really don't like her after I've watched it a few times at my house, I might say "She's good." Whatever is the case. I just am not going to care in the theater. Just the story is important for me then!

I was watching Freedom Writers (FW) the other day and I was like wow that lady looks like Umbridge, and of course it was. Imelda did an excellent job as the villain in FW and I can only imagine that she will do an even better job as Umbridge. It's funny BECAUSE I kept picturing her being tortured by Centaurs in Freedom Writers.
Please Spell Out All Your Words...... Thanks |

Oh! I really wanted to see that movie but they hardly played it in the cinemas here. That was kinda upsetting. Sorry I'm very OT.
Whats this "nasty girlyness"? I have to say personally I never really pictures Umbridge as being girly at all. |
