Okay, so what does everybody think of the new trailer with Bella saying the V-word.
Now, don't look at me like that, baty and dijares, you know perfectly well I mean "Vampire". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ROFL!! Thanks for the tip that it was out. I just went over to YouTube and watched it. AND.... I also watched an extended version of it that was apparently shown at a special screening and was illegally recorded. Quite good I say!! |

Ha, I have a hard time remembering that you post Twilight stuff on the home page. The first one from YouTube didn't work. It said it was no longer available. |

Here we go again...
Sheesh, another trailer showing something that didn't happen in the book has made the movie. Climbing trees no less... Big fight scenes... No ice under Tyler's van... Still, can't wait. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Still, can't wait. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) True, true, although the book does mention that Edward flies through the trees (this is especially true in the last book), but there were some huge errors on the van scene that I noticed in the different angles of the trailer. But, right, still can NOT wait. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I can wait.
... ... Dang. Can't wait either. Seriously though, I'm fully prepared to pretend I haven't read the book and try to evaluate the movie on it's own. Another alternate universe for us. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) On a different note... Aren't you guys glad I finished the series before posting a bunch of convoluted theories? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I just saw the trailer on TV today, and thought it was quite cool. It seemed longer then the ones I've already seen. |

I liked the movie more than the book, to be honest, which doesn't happen with me very often.

I loved the books. I read them many times before the movie came out. The first time I saw the movie
I absolutely hated it. The story was very chopped up, alot was left out and the makeup was horrible. So my daughters and I (from sheer boredom) went to see it after Christmas to see if we really hated it as much as we remembered. I have to say the second time I saw it it really wasn't that bad. Don't get me wrong. The makeup is still horrble and the story still chopped up but I have to admit that I am looking forward to New Moon. Less of Edward looking constipated. Anyway that is my experience with the movie. If you have read the books you have a better understanding of the story line. |

I'm hoping the second movie brings a better makeup artist. |

Did anybody see what Stephen King said about Stephenie Meyer? He said that she couldn't "write worth a darn."

I know people would be aghast at my opinion (and it made me mad that many of the news organizations only quoted what he said about Stephenie and not the other authors in the article), but I have to agree with him. Don't get me wrong - I L-O-V-E the Twilight books, but she is an okay writer - I'd, personally, like more detail (I love to know what's happening around the people I read about), but she writes great stories. Here's some quotes from my own article:
QUOTE He said he does believe that J.K. Rowling did read some of his books and that they influenced some of her writing. "I think that has some kind of formative influence the same way reading Richard Matheson had an influence on me," King explains. "People always say to me, 'Well, what about H.P. Lovecraft?' And the thing was, you read Lovecraft when you were a kid but I never felt that he was speaking my language. It was chillier than my heart was, and when Matheson started to write about ordinary people and stuff, that was something that I wanted to do. I said, 'This is the way to do it. He’s showing the way.' I think that I serve that purpose for some writers, and that’s a good thing. Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. ... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."
He goes on to explain that although an author may not be a very good writer that it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't successful or popular. But then King recalls that when his mom was alive, she read all the Erle Stanley Gardner books, the Perry Mason mysteries, obsessively when he was growing up. "He was a terrible writer, too, but he was very successful," King says. He goes on to explain a bit more about Stephenie Meyer. "People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it's not particularly threatening because they’re not overtly sexual. A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet." |

Here's some quotes from my own article: It's funny you printed that out because I didn't even know he thought JK was a terrific writer. I'm not a King fan, but I definitely agree with him on that. Jo is a terrific writer. There aren't too many authors that can write a 7 book series, have it grow like it did, and it is a total success. Does this mean that she didn't make errors? No, but what it does mean that she was consistent in what she was writing. I would like to know why he thought Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn. I have seen a lot of polls that say the Twilight series is so much better then the potter series. But they are trying to compare apples to oranges. Twilight is definitely geared toward a very different reader, the girly teen fan base is just phenomenal. But with Potter it's geared not only to teen girls but to young kids as well as adults of both sexes. And yes Adults do like Twilight, but they are not the ones RAVING about Twilight it's those teen girls. lol Ok, I know I'm going to get some flack on this one. |

JK Rowling is amazing, for sure. The last three books are basically her rough drafts. I wonder if she even had time to edit? I would guess not. Even for rough drafts, her character development is very advanced as well as plot development.
Stephenie Meyer's writing is a lot more amateur. She has no such depth to her characters and they're too unrealistic. Her book The Host shows that. Of course, it's fantasy, but she isn't nearly as advanced or skilled as Jo, I think, regardless of intended age groups. Plus, she abandoned her ideals as a writer in the third and especially the fourth, which was rather disapointing. |
