After re-reading the GoF I have found some very interesting hints as to why Snape is acting with the Order, not the Death-Eaters.
If you look @ pg 651 in GoF it is the scene where Voldemort is talking to the DE's in the graveyard he says 6 are missing. 3 dead, one too cowardly to return (Karkaroff), ONE WHO HE BELIEVES HAS LEFT HIM FOREVER (SNAPE??) that will be killed, and his most faithful servant who is @ Hogwarts and is responsible for Harry being there(crouch). Then near the end of the book in the hospital wing Dumbledore says this to Snape: "Severus, you know what I must ask you to do. If you are ready....If you are prepared..." Snape says "I am" While looking paler than usual and his cold, black eyes glittering strangely. It is obvious that Dumbledore wants him to go and act as a double again. In the beggining of HBP Snape tells Lestrange that Voldemort trusts him. Since Snape is so good @ occlumency he might have been able to hide the fact that is really with the Order from him and said that he had been waiting for his return while staying at Hogwarts. That's why I think Snape is still good. |

Ah, but I differ in my opinion of that particular phrase. I have always believed that it was indeed Karkaroff who had left him forever, Crouch as the servant and Snape as the coward. And I also believe that the events in HBP confirm that theory of mine. Karkaroff is dead, Snape is not.
Since Snape is so good @ occlumency he might have been able to hide the fact that is really with the Order from him and said that he had been waiting for his return while staying at Hogwarts.
But you can make the same argument for the other side. Since Snape is so good at Occlumency, he could've hid from DD his glee at V. returning, couldn't he? And it would've been even easier to perform the Occlumency against DD cause DD (man I loved this old fool) believed Snape's story when he gave it and probably never even bothered to perform Legillimency against Snape. And the part where Snape is a little pale, but his eyes are glittering strangely can also be explained. He was full of fear. He was supposed to go straight to V. when he felt the Dark Mark burn and didn't. He knew he was going to be punished and punishment from V. is something I would certainly fear. But his eyes are what give him away I think. Glittering strangely. I think that could be from his happiness, but from trying to keep it from DD in case DD did decide to invade his mind at that time. I'm still going to read the books again before I make a final judgment on Snape, but the impression I got after reading HBP is that he is still working for V. and that DD never should've trusted him. It just works so well with the theories I've had for the last three years and I will have a hard time letting them go when they seem to be falling into place so nicely. |

And you are absolutely right my dear! 11a:wub: He did say that V. thought he had left him forever. I still need to read the book again. I haven't even started yet. 30:quiet: 17:blush: The first time I read it, I read it for the story. But after that, it's time to start some analyzing and theorizing. 02:D Hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so, I'll have the time to start reading it again. 01:) QUOTE Me and my fiancee were discussing Snape's age the other day and I made the mistake of thinking Snape was only in his 30's -- assuming he had started teaching soon after graduating from Hogwarts. This was wrong. Actually, it is quite correct. Let's see, I have Snape as being born January 8th, 1959. I will explain myself, so there are no inquires. Firstly, I base all my ages of characters being born off the Deathday cake at Nick's party. We have COS happening in 1992 then. Harry started in 1991. That puts Snape at 32 years of age in SS. I believe it was around the time of publication for GOF that Jo said he was 35 or 36. 4 years from SS would put him at 35 and 36 during GOF. So he is in his 30's, just his late 30's. For Hagrid, I have him down as between 1928 and 1930 and Voldemort, I have him down between 1925 and 1927. 01:) Actually, I have Hagrid down as 1926, but I have since found out his birthday and have not yet re-calculated it and gotten the correct year worked out. But I know I''m close. 01:) |
