QUOTE (ginapotter @ Jul 3 2004, 05:02 PM)
i have a question:

i kno how to get pictures into my sig but it only turns up with a link. y cant i get the actuall picture there??

When checking the links that you are using in your signature to your photos, they're not coming up.

When you have the photo up on your browser, copy the URL (the link that is shown in your browser or address window) and copy it directly to where you want them to show in your signature (you can edit your signature by clicking on your name, then clicking Edit Your Signature.) Click the IMG button and enter in the URL you have copied from the address window into the window that pops up.

If you did not post these pictures up yourself, it is also possible that the person who had posted them up has either deleted the pictures or changed the links. I have done this on my own site b/c I have SO MUCH bandwidth stolen from me, which costs loads of money, that I've gone through and changed all my links to my pics. Which is a huge hassle. This is why on my main site you are no longer able to right click onto the site.

I did this b/c someone actually stole my design and was linking straight back to it and actually got some awards for the design. <_< The work takes me hours and weeks to finish, and it made me just a little upset.

I hope there was some form of revenge and / or invoking of your copyright on your part. The lowest form of people on the intarweb (yes, intarweb) is plagarists.

Sorry it happened to you Dijares, but that sort of thing happens waay too much. <_<

Yikes! :yikes: Poor Dijares! What a prat those people were! I agree with Estel...Take revenge...

I'm glad you know how to fix the problem. I know every time i right click to see where you got the pic from it has a link to your site, so its always traced back to you! (er does that make sense?)

Is that where you get emails when someone posts on that topic? thats annoying, it floods your inbox on a busy day.

I've no idea. I've never subscribed to a thread before for that reason. I don't want my inbox getting flooded. :yikes:

I am having a problem. This morning a technician came to work on our internet. Since then, none of my topic pages are updating. Even after I read a post, it is still marked unread, and the latest posts are not shown under "Most recent post". When I actually go into the thread, the new posts are there, but they don't show up on the pages with the lists of topics.

Does it have something to do with cookie settings?

I was thinking cookies... Check your settings. Are you using Internet Explorer? I use the Medium setting and it works fine for me.

Could be Molly, it could be set to not accept cookies. If this is the case I think it doesn't save your settings. But again, I'm not what you would call computer literate. :(

Well my cookies setting was Medium, but just in case, I edited it to allow cookies from this site only.

But it still isn't refreshing itself. Dijares showed me a way to do it manually, but I have to do it every time I open a page,

For example (totally made up): say the topic page says the last post was by crazy4orli in the thread "Harry ate french fries". When I open the topic, it shows the most recent post to be ronwealseyrocks in "Voldemort needs a haircut"/ So I press CTRL F5 and it fixes it so crazy4orli is at the top with french fry post. Then I click that thread, and there is no post at the end by crazy4orli, so I have to press CTRL F5 again, then presto, orli's post is there. It is driving me nuts!!! :sorry:

Any clues? I may go mad soon!

Are you using a new ISP or upgrading? YOu should check the spyware settings, you might have been infected with corrupt tracking mines/or you spyware settings may be on too high. Hence the old topics only being in display.

Any problems Bats and give us a shout ;)

Molly, are you using Internet Explorer? (since M$ lumps it with windows in every PC across the globe :irked: ... )I'll assume that you are.

So, try this .....

Tools >> Internet Options >> General (tab at top- may change with different version of windows) >> Settings

Check that ..

Check for newer versions of stored pages

has

everytime i visit this page

checked, and not

everytime i start internet explorer

checked.

Just an alternative idea.

And/Or, delete cookie, your temporary internet files, browser cache and start IE and check back.

And/Or Add this site to your 'Trusted sites' which should let a cookie be placed ok enough and see if this makes a difference.

Do you have the 'Remember me?' button on the login page checked? I remember this irked me for awhile when i had i checked.

Also, as mentioned, you might want to check to see if this 'technician' has 'modified' any of your other settings such as your spyware and restricted site 'zones'.

Run an anti-virii AND a bot check (try something like AD-AWARE or SPYBOT:SEEK AND DESTROY)

but that i think is overkill for this problem. I think the first thing will suffice.

Good Luck. :D

(*breathes* .... trouble shooting is fun ;) )

-edit-

failing this, contact the Technician and find out what they done to your PC.

I think cookies are temporary internet files. when you login somewhere and you already have the password there when you put the user name thats when a cookie has remembered the password

I see 'Bats' has caught on! :P

I have gone from :badptr: to :cloud9: thanks to estel. Wow-you really know your stuff. I had set my cookies to allow this as a trusted site, but the other thing you mentioned was Check for new versions of the page... it was set for NEVER! :irked:

I don't know how it got changed  , but we were having big problems with our internet service ever since we got DSL. But the thing was, no one else in the neighborhood was having the problem. Well the technician we got actually knew what he was doing - which was a welcome relief because I was getting better at fixing it than the people who answered the Help Line. ( I consider myself intelligent, but at my age, the new technology is difficult to keep up with.)

So now that I have rambled, I am very hopeful that all my worries are over,

so baty.... you have a great resource here. THANKS everyone!

P.S. spyware is a whole other issue...

Some sites doesn't allow hotlinking. That means that you have to save the pic on your HDD instead. And you have to host the pic on a hoster, like PhotoBucket.

When you have done that, you just copy the URL, and put it in the box in Edit Signature, and save. :)

Good luck!
