J. K. Rowling has donated an A4 sheet of paper with the entire Black family tree. From the news article, we can see some surprising names, including Flint (as in Marcus Flint), Longbottom, and Potter.

See it below, and click it to get a larger view.

So, let the theories begin. It's all very interesting. 15^_^

You see the burn marks, right, from Sirius' mom? Those are the big black spots. And she says, 'there are many stories between the lines'. What does that mean? I wonder if she's thinking of other stories to write about them?

Maybe she'll write about them in the last book, and explain who they are? It'd be interesting to know who they are! 01:)

hmmm.. I'm interpreting "many stories between the lines" as "this is the theorizers heaven!"

I'm wondering what it means when the geneology doesn't continue at a coupling but just ends with a line and those numbers.. it doesn't look like it really ends there.. more like they may be page references to continue the geneology on another page.. what do you think?

Just wondering if the Dorea and Charles Potter line continues on another page, this maybe where we eventually see the Potters we know come in. Which means they may not be pureblood Gryffindors through and through.. knocking out all those heir of Gryffindor theories surrounding Harry and his father.. and adding depth to the Sorting Hat's indecisiveness over Harry..

On the other Hand, James could have been descended from an ancestor who did not marry into a Slytherin family e.g. Charles Potter may have had a brother for all we know.

Another thing this shows us, is that assuming the Longbottoms and Potters were generally Gryffindor families, what Dumbledore said was true. At one stage, Slytherins and Gryffindors were close. Is it too much to hope for interhouse unity at Hogwarts?

Hmm..

I actually took it to mean that there are stories that we would love to hear between the lines. Like how Charles Potter hooked up with Dorea and how Harfang Longbottom hooked up with Calladora. There are many interesting stories between the lines indeed. 01:)

To me, it looks as if it is a child reference. Look at the Potter one. It appears that it says "1s." In the Longbottom one it looks like "1s 1d." Looks as if Sirius and James were distantly related after all. I would love to get my hands on the full sheet! 18:ph34r:

Herbert Burke... as in Borgin & Burkes?!

Nigellus, Flint, Bulstrode, Longbottom, Crouch, Potter... they're ALL related! Wow! This is just so... wow!

It'd be so cool if the person can share it with the online community of Potter fans. And reading that was very very...I don't know what to say...like Littlemushroom says, they're ALL related...one way or the other! It's just bizzare! But it's so nice to see the amount of thought and work that Jo has put into this!

.. yes I agree, that's why it's theorizers heaven, how exactly did they meet? I'm sure there are lots of theories around about these relationships already in the Harry Potter community!

I see the little "S"s and "D"s now. That's for pointing that out! Makes a whole lot more sense now.

they're ALL related!

I know! It's just.. CRAZY!!! The line about all pureblood families being related somehow wasn't a joke!!!

It's nice to know that Jo knows the geneology of her families. It gives me a general feeling that she's thought over the little things and makes me definitely feel in save hands for the next book!

I've love to have the next book, but not yet! Too busy at the moment and I need to sort out my opinion on Snape first!

And I supose that the part of the family tree that we can't see is where the Weasley appear. It's understandable that all pure magical families are related to each other. Sirius told Harry in OotP that there were few left, and I'm sure they didn't want to
end like the gaunts, marrying their cousins and developing a vein of insanity.

However, maybe JKR considered quite a few options. In OotP is where we are told about Black family and how the families are related. Maybe she had in her notes more options to develop in the book (like telling that Srius is related to the Longbottom or the Potter), but finally thought that it was moer worthy to mention the Weasley, specially after Sirius arguement with Molly.

Interesting... I've always wondered why, after Sirius said "the Pureblood families are all related", Harry didn't search for his own family?

...Stupid boy.

We also have to keep in mind that even though the names are on the Black family tree, doesn't mean they are closely related. There could be generations apart which wouldn't mean they would be marrying closely related relatives. God Forbid, this would mean Harry and Ginny couldn't marry. 35:yikes: 22:cry:
