Cassy woke up the next morning to bright sunlight and a scream of one of the girls in her dormitry.
"Wassamatter?"she said, still half-asleep.
"I don't know. I just felt like screaming."
"Oh. Okay." She laid back down and tried to go to sleep, but sat bolt upright,"Tom!"she said under her breath.
"What?"said another girl in the room.
"Nothing,"said Cassy, a little embarassed. She got dressed and went down to breakfast.

The sun shone through the window and into Tom's eyes. He rolled over and rose quickly and quietly from his bed. It was Saturday and he dreaded having to face Cassy and Katie. Something inside of him didn't care anymore. Yes, somehow he still did. He hated it.
Love was nothing that he wanted to feel. He got dressed quickly and hurried down to breakfast, hoping to avoid any contact with anybody.

Once Cassy was in the Great Hall, she sat down by herself and got some toast. She looked depressed again, which made the other Ravenclaws think that she was back to normal.

Tom hurried past the Ravenclaw table, hoping to unnoticed...

Cassy saw Tom and immediatly cried out,"Hey, Tom. Come here."

Tom grimaced, grinding his teath. He walked over to her table and stood in front of her. He tried his best to sound friendly. "What?" Out of the corner of his eye his saw Katie enter the room...

"I just wanted to tell you that I had a really great time by the lake yesterday. Even though I was depressed."she said.

"Yah," he nodded, "right, yah. I hafta go." He turned to the Slytherin table, grabbed a pastry and then walked off, leaving Cassy behind as he left the great hall.

Cassy was going to apologize for being so wierd yesterday, but Tom ran off before she could. That made her,if possible, even more upset. Then the letter came.

Tom took one bite of the pastry and then threw it to the grounds. The grass was still green, but starting to die in the September heat. The sun had just rose and blinded him as he walked along the fields. He saw the newly constructed hut on the far side by the forbidden forest. As he quickened his pace, the hut neared and he came to a stop at the door. He rapped his knuckles on the wood. A grumble came from inside the hut and soon the door opened. A very large boy with a long expanse of shaggy hair stood before him. His beady eyes showed a slight hatred for the boy, yet held back as though he thought his accusations were too harsh.
"Morning, Hagrid," Tom said kindly.
"What do you want, Riddle?" the boy said in a deep voice. His size may have intimidated any other wizard of Tom's age, but not him. He stood his ground, looking up at the boy.
"I need to ask you something..."

Cassy stared at the letter in disbelief. Then the tears came. First silently, then she broke down completely. Everyone in the Great Hall stared. She walked out,looking for Tom. She needed him now more than ever.

"Are you sure?" Tom checked with Hagrid again, who nodded vigorously. Tom still had an aching feeling that it wasn't true, but he knew he had no other choice. "Alright. thanks." He turned to leave, but saw Cassy running across the grounds towards him. Her cheeks were wet wet with tears.
"Who's that?" Hagrid asked looked from him to the girl and then back to him.

"Tom..."cried Cassy,"it's..my..mom." She could barely speak because she was crying. She gave the letter to Tom to read.

Tom's eyes trailed off of the signature of the Minister of Magic and looked to her. "I'm so sorry," he murmered. He wrapped his arms around her, wishing he could be of more comfort. He glared at Hagrid, who looked away immediatly.
"It's alright," he told her, "You'll be fine." But he knew she wouldn't be.

Cassy sobbed into Tom's arms. "Now I have no family whatssoever. I am the only one left." The death of her mother really tore her apart. She was left all alone, with no one to come home to in the summer.

"You and I both," he told her. Hagrid opened his mouth to agree, but a look from Tom silenced him. "Come on," he put his arm around her shoulder as he led her from Hagrid's hut. He didn't know where he would lead her, only that she needed him with her. His only hope was that his comfort could somehow ease her pain.

As Cassy was walking with Tom, she realized something. She had at least on friend at Hogwarts. She also realized that she loved Tom.

Tom noticed that her tears had quited, though they were still streaming down her face. "Did you know that I am an orphan also?" he asked. Though he hated having similarities with other people, he thought that maybe if she had somebody that understood her it could calm her down. Although he felt no remorse for the death of his parents, he knew what it felt like to be alone.

Cassy sniffed and said,"No, I didn't. But, Tom, I have realized something. I love you."

Tom felt a sharp pain in his stomach, as though somebody had punched him hard. Nobody had ever felt so stongly for him, nor had he felt so much for anybody else.
"I love you," he told her.

(Ah how horrible, I have to go do chores and my mom says I've been on the computer to much [teehee... go figure] so I have to go... don't know when I'll be back, but hopefully soon!!!)
