i know I've read POA too many times, but there is a part in the book which i still don't understand.
Chapter 17, Cat, Rat and Dogg, page 250 But Black's free hand had found Harry's throat - 'No,' he hissed. 'I've waited too long -' The fingers tightened, harry chocked, his glasses askew. if Sirius set out to kill Peter Pettigrew, why does he attempt to strangle Harry? Any ideas? |

Well I think he did it to more or less restrain Harry. Thinking that Harry would pull back.
Or because Sirius was in "tunnel vision". I mean that he was so obsessed with killing Wormtail that he didn't care who he hurt to get to him. Well that is what I thought. |

QUOTE Well I think he did it to more or less restrain Harry. I agree! The way I interpreted it was as a way to get Harry to stop attacking him, not to really do Harry any harm. |

I agree with msricenbeans. that he waited to long to kill wormtail, that no one was going to stop him. He was obsessed with getting revenge on wormtail for him betraying James and Lily and also sending him (Sirius) to prison when he did nothing wrong. |

wouldn't you be anxious if you'd been in prison for 12 years with nothing but the thought that you were somehow responsible for your best friends death? well sirius was and thats good enough reason to try and get to Wormtail and have nothing get in the way even if that meant trying to get Harry out of the way.....

This probably is'nt the reason but another interpretation i have thought up is that Sirius might have known that Harry had James's determination and would want to avenge there death therefor Sirius might have been scared that Harry was wiiling to kill Sirius who until later on was pinned for His parents death and did it to stop himself being killed by Harry.
