I just found out recently that Harry Potter and the new Transformers movie are opening within a few days of each other. I know this is a Potter room, so the votes might be a little biased (hee hee), but I totally believe Potter will leave Transformers in the dust. What do you all think? Will it be better than Transformers, or better yet, any of the other big franchises out there?

Personally I think that Spider-Man will keep the top spot. With that said, I do think that both Shrek and Pirates have the ability to come close to taking Spider-Man down from the top spot but just fall short.
I think Transformers will have an initial high drawl. Simply because it is a holiday weekend and it looks interesting. In the end though I think it will fall short because I t hink most the people who will go watch are the 20-30 age group that grew up on the original series from the 80s, but will be disappointed for not recognizing any of the characters in this updated version causing the movie to drop after the first weekend. I would really like to see "Order" take the top spot though. I think it might have the potential to do just that. Esepcially since buzz will be high for "Deathly Hallows" only a few days later. So, in my own wishful thinking, I'd like to see the final earning order be the following: Potter, Spider-Man, Pirates, Shrek, and Transformers (all very close in earnings..like maybe only off by 1-2 million separating each movie). However in reality, I think this will be the end result: Spider-Man, Potter, Priates, and toss up between Transformers and Shrek for the final two slots. |

I think Potter will definitely beat Transformers (though I loved Transformers as a kid) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) , but as for whether it can beat the other big franchises, I dunno. Well, I take that back, it'll kick some Nancy Drew booty too, but I think it's biggest competition will be POTC3. Shrek is getting old and Spidey hasn't had rave reviews, but as for Pirates, well, I think it's a toss-up between the two. OOTP looks fantastic, but it's the last Pirates movie and that also looks amazing. Hmmmm. Well, I guess I just can't vote on this one. It's going to be too close to call.

I'm not sure. It's a tie between Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Order of the Phoenix... I'll just have to think about this some more, and vote later. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I can see Pirates being on top all summer long. As for Spiderman? Nah, it was good, but lacking in many areas, and I don't think it was as good as the first two. As for Potter, I'm not sure. In my area the Potter movies seem to die quite quickly, and it is quite annoying. If it's *good* quality like they do with Pirates it should be a huge success, but we'll see.

This is not because i'm a potter fan, but I think thta harry potter will be the most popular movie. Do you want to know why?
Because potter fans, all around the world are very excited about the last book, meaning that you can feel the Potteuphoria even now... believe me, OOTP will be a record. |

I'd like to see it happen, but who knows. If WB would put the money into these movies and tried for an award I think it could happen. I think a best movie could be had if just a bit of 'I want Potter to have a fair chance' was considered. And plus there are some quality actors in there. So give them a chance at a best actor award. But you know what? It'll never happen. And Alan Rickman could have a chance in HBP if given a chance. |

aaah, I didn't know we were talking about awards. I think it was about which one will be more succesfull, about money, and people who go to see it, and all that. And yes, you're right, this kind of movies only get awards for their fx and stuff like that. I don't remember of a sci-fi fantasy movie that got an award for being 'best movie' or for the actors... but let's keep our fingers crossed for HBP... I don't know why actors are not given awards in these movies...

I think OOTP will beat Transformers and OOTP will probably get top movie of the week, because Shrek, POTC 3 and Spiderman 3 will have been out for a while. But overall I think at least one of them will top OOTP.

They were just talking, on tv, that Pirates did not have all that success this weekend. It didn't beat the second Pirate movie, and it didn't beat Shrek and Spiderman. So it didn't do as good as I thought because I thought it'd beat Shrek and Spiderman. Harry Smith asked the guy he was interviewing (don't know the guys name) how he thought the next Potter movie would do, Smith made it all a joke calling it the 10th movie, and the guy just said it has it's following, and it comes out two weeks before the book. Nothing else was said, so I'm taking it that he doesn't think it'll do well. JERK!!!

My first thought was that OotP is going to kick Transformers' big metal butt! LOL! Although, we obviously have more Transformers fans than I thought.

I finally saw one of the movies on the list (POTC3) and was a little disappointed, but still thought it a good movie. I was very excited by the Transformers preview in front of it. That looks like it could be really really good. I don't think it'll beat Potter, but it still looks good. Having seen Pirates now though, I'm thinking about changing my mind to say that Phoenix will be the top movie of the summer. The only thing that's stopping me is Spidey 3. I still haven't seen that one, so I can't vote for Phoenix yet, though right now, I'm feeling that Phoenix will rule the Box Office this year. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

As for POTC3, I haven't seen it, but like I said before, it didn't beat it's last one, and it didn't beat Shrek and Spidey. I know, I repeated what I mentioned above. :~/ |

I hope OOTP beats Transformers at least and it really should. I think it will be a close call, depends on how Shrek 3 is. I mean if one person sees it and loves it you get the whole rush to go see it. Same with POTC3. So here's hopeing that all the Potter fans will rave about the movie and get everyone to go see it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
