The next day Lily walked alone, strolling the grounds as usual. She walked around the lake, for what felt like the hundreth time, then on her final turn spotted an un pleasant sight. At first she thought it was a small boy, crying by the lake, but as she neared she realized it to be the very same man that she had once been best friends with. She crept up slowly, keeping low to the ground. She side stepped when she thought he might have saw her, and ducked behind a tree. Luckily he turned the other way, wiping his eyes as he did this, and thought nothing of it. Lily watched the firgure, and realized that he must have been sorry, truely sorry. So she made her move. Now, Lily knew perfectly well that she said to James that she would never talk to Severus, but in times like this, even Mrs Evans could break a promise.
" Snape..." she said softly. The boy didn't even jump.
" I thought I saw someone with red hair..." he said, trying to hide the tears. Silence grew between the two, until Lily couldn't stand it. It had never been so hard to talk to Severus...he could have been her brother. Then, Lily broke the silence.
" What-What are you doing Severus"? she asked in a 'Try hard bored voice'. This obviously didn't work, because he spoke like it didn't hurt at all. But then again, he was a good liar.
" Nothing, dont worry about me..." He said harshly, turning his back as he said it.
Lily cheeks grew red and took this as an offence.
" Who said I'm worrying?" she continued angrily.
The boy spluttered and retorted,"Ok...you got me," he said half laughing."What do you want? I thought you never wanted to talk to me again?"
The girl grimananced at how much nowledge he knew already. But continued all the same.
" Yeah...well no one would from the way you reacted the other day with James..."

The boy screwed up his face, obviously trying to for see this memorie. But it wasn't getting past Lily...well at least not too easily.
" I mean, what were you thinking? going out there like that, and cursing James. I knew you were dark..but not that dark," Lily said angrily, then sighing sadely.
" Look Lily, let me explain. I only did it for one reason..that's all," said Severus, walking towards Lily, a longing expresion on his face.
" Oh yeah...and what might that be? Because it better be the best darn reason I've ever heard," she said flipping her hair back as he walked closer. She wasn't going to back down..not now not ever.
" Oh, it is," said Severus closing in. Now he was way too close, but Lily stood her ground. " I Love You," he said simply.

OK! this was enough. Now the love limit had reached two. But LOVE...come one, I mean that is a big word, thought Lily, staring into Severus face, nose centimetres away. Lily leaned in closer,( if it was possible) and said," You-love me"? it couldn't possibly be true...love! James and Severus. Oh, now this just complicated things...again.
" With all my heart," he replied dreamily. Lily turned around but was caught on something. Severus. He grabbed her hand and said," Once in a lifetime...means there's no second chance,Lily, I love you". Lily pulled away, confused more than ever. What was she going to tell James? No. Was she even going to tell James? she didn't even trust herself with this...who would she go for?
Severus stood, his feet glued to the ground. He had never told anyone, ECSPECIALLY NOT LILY, but there he went...he had finally told her...now all he could do was wait.

Ok. So the ball was tonight. Lily wasn't complaining, no. Well maybe she was, but only to herself. TONIGHT!! She yelled inside her head, as she crimped her hair, prepairing for the ball. So she was going with James, of course. But even as she grabbed her handbag, and exaimed her black dress, falling lightly to the ground and continuing up her back, she couldn't help but fell a twinge of guilt. Was it really ok to do this? To go with James and abandoned Severus? Now she hadn't told James.. she would never tell James, because thigs would just get messy. But the recent conversation with Severus had changed a lot of thing between the two...including how she felt for him. Now she had to think carefully about this. James loved her, there for she had a lot of respect towards him. But Severus also loved her...so they were both equally respectable. But as things were coming together it was Severus who had jinxed James... but it was him who had cured him too. But even as Lily tried to denie it, he only did it for her. If Lily hadn't been there he would have given James the fluke..letting him rot in his sorrow. But she was grateful for what he had done..curing James. She made her way towards the Griffindore enterance, many heads turing in hjer direction. Many wolf whistled whent about, including one from James as he jumped down the rest of his stares and walked towards Lily." Hey!" he bellowed to the crowed," She mine," he laughed..only half joaking. As he reached Lily he stopped in hsi tracks.
" You Look...Beautiful".
Lily smiled and said," As do you...now are we gonna get going or what,"? she asked laughed as James slid a hand between hers.

Lily laughed so hard her stomach hurt. She was having the time of her life, dancing like crazy and watching Sirius's funny immitations of a robot dancer. Lily finally sat down at a table for her first propper rest of the night.
" Hey there, wild girl," laughed James, sitting beside Lily. " Everything alright?" he asked.
Lily startled and said," Oh yer! I'm just so puffed..actually I think I might go outside for a bit..that ok"? she asked sweetly.
James laughed and said," Yer, fine by me...You want me to come"? but before Lily could answer Sirius yelled,
" James! our favourite song, come on!!".
Lily laughed and said," No that's fine, I'll only be five minutes..".
James smiled and replied by bending down and kissing the back of Lilys hand softly and saying," Ok..but dont be to long...I expect a robot dance from you".
Lily grinned and walked around the side of the great hall alone. She wandered out by the lake, letting the breezse push her hair back. Suddenly a voice said, " Thought you'd be here". Lily startled and pulled out her wand, illuminating it at once. " Lumerous!" she cried.
But she had shone the light too close to her eyes, blinding her to see who was following her.
This, however, gave the person a view of Lily in full light.
" You-You look beautiful" stuttered the other. Lily knew almost immediently who it was. She shone her light towards him, and saw that he had his hand over where his heart lay, as if to say he loved her.
Lily smiled and said," Look Severus..I have to go". She walked forwards butb was blocked.
" No...please! stay with me..for a little while"? he had a pleading manner in hsi voice that told Lily she must stay.
" Ok..but I can't keep James waiting".

Severus was glad she had gave in. But he couldn't shake the feeling that she didn't want to be here. Had she moved on? why was she so eager to go back to lover boy, James?
"Thanks.." he murmered, unable to restrage the pure delight hiding behind the words.
They sat for many minutes in silence, watching the murmaids jump up in the lake playfully. The one thing that Severus loved about Lily was that even though they wern't talking, it wasn't the slightest bit awquard between the two. They could sit there for hours, happily in silence...and it would feel right. The minutes zoomed by when Severus finally said," Having fun with James"? He tried as hard as he could to leave the hatred out of his voice, but he couldn't. And Lily wasn't oblivious to this either.
" Why can't you just accept that I'm with James"? she asked angrily. " Dont you want me to be happy"? she asked, fury rising in her timid voice. This question struck Severus as a shock, and he retorted pleadingly,
" Of course I want you to be happy! Dont you get it Lily? I love you. And when a person loves another, thats all they want for them in the world".
Lily grimanced and faced the waters edge, but was interupted by a sad," Your choosing James"?
She had been expecting this question, although never had her answer ready. " No- I- look Severus, I really need to get back-" But she was cut in.
"No, are you choosing him?" he asked again, looking her in the eyes.
" Severus! I want to be happy! Dont you get that"?
"You can't be happy with me"?
" I didn't say that".
"You didn't have to," Concluded Sevreus. Now the two of them were facing eachother off. Lily was fuming, and Severus was obviously sharing the same emotions.
But something wierd had happened during this. It was like the anger was drawing them together. And the next thing Lily knew, she was kissing Severus.

Lily, awed, pulled away after many minutes. What was she doing? going around like this and kissing anyone insite...Ok, that was a big exageration, but still...She shouldn't have kissed Severus.
" Lily"? asked a voice from her left. She turned and saw James, standing alone, with a red rose in his hand. It dropped the moment he had talked.
Lily pushed Severus away from herself, expanding the space between the two.
" He kissed me"! Sobbed Lily, pointing her index finger at Severus. "James, it-it wasn't my fault, I swear. He forced me"! she screamed, crying harder than ever.
Severus was shocked. Why was Lily acting like this? This wasn't her, and besides...she had kissed him.
" I-What"? said Severus, frowning at Lily, awed. " I would never-Lily why are you doing thi-"
"-He forced his discusting mouth-" Lily couldn't finish the sentence. She stumbled to James, wrapping her arms around him, and crying like mad.
Lily was making it out liek Severus was the bad one. Like he was the one who had forced her into kissing him. James was perplexed. I mean, he knew Snape was a dirty rat, but...no . He loved Lily too, and wouldn't do that to her.
" Lily-I..Are you sure he did this"? asked James, pushing her at arms length to observe the crying recks face.
" You dont believe me? I- how could you James"? James had heard enough. Of course he believed her, the love of his life.
" I- Of course," stammered James quickly. He retrieved his wand from his pocket and pointed it at Severus's face.
" You will pay," he mumbled.
Severus didn't even try to defend himself. There was a flash of red light, and he fell, stunned, to the ground.




Severus awoke, freezing. He could feel the cold air, grabbing at his lungs, sucking it's way into him. He tried tried to stand up, but couldn't. He crawled a few paces, but gave up quickly. His legs were numb from the cold, enabling him to stand. But he knew where he was. He was at the very scene that had taken place- about two hours previous was his guess. Lily had accused him of forcing her to kiss him, but that wasn't the real Lily. Deep down Severus knew something was wrong. She had been put onder the imperious curse.

The next night Severus made a note to meet Lily. But he wasn't so sure it would be that easy. That whole day James had kept an annoying close eye on Lily. It was like a mother wolf and her babys. You can see but can't touch. This made it exceedingly hard for Severus. Take today as an example.
"Sniveless. All well?" taunted Sirius, stepping into Severus's stride.
" Yeah, How's things hanging"? Wheezed Wormtail, stepping on the other side of Severus, as though forcing him to stay where he walked.
" Better If I see Lily," replied Severus cheekily.
" Aww, Well we wouldn't want that dream to appear in that little head of yours now would we? You know as well as I do that you wont be seeing Lily anytime...well just anytime," replied Severus, lauging and walking ahead, Wormtail giggling stupidly in his wake.
This was when Severus knew he had to take things into his own hands. But he hadn't done this alone. As soon as he knew that Lily was under the Imperius curse he had informed Dumbledore.
" I'm-I'm scared Dumbledore," admitted Severus, finally sitting down opposite Dumbeldore. " I-I just dont understand why anyone would do this to-" he didnt even want to finish the sentence. It hurt to much. " She might get hurt.." he said, a tear forming in his eye.
Dumbledore studied Severus, his bright blue eye giving Severus the feeling that he wad being Ex-rayed.
" You really love her"? he asked, not letting his gaze fall from Severus.
" Always," he replied numbly.
"Well, I can't say it surprise's me,"mumbled The headmaster," Wierd things have been happening at Hogwarts lately," sighed Dumbledore.
" I-What do you mean Sir"? asked Severus, his ears on a alert.
" I mean, Something has been getting into the castle, And I think it may include Lord Voldemort," muttered Dumbledore.
Severus frowned and said," How-Why do you think so, sir?"
" I have my ways," replied Dumbledore, Secretly thinking of Horuxes. " And I want you, James and Lily to do something about it".
Severus jaw dropped. "Me-Lily?" he stuttered.
"Yes, and James I think. You love Lily, and it is pretty obvious that James feels the same feelings. I want you, and him to protect her, work as a team".
" Work as a team-"mumbled Severus.
"You love Lily"?
"I - you know I do!" he said defensivly.
" You would protect her?"
"I would die for her," he said without a second thought.
" Good, then it's solved. Heres the Griffindore password," said Dumbledore handing Severus a piece of paper,"Meet James and Lily tonight and tell them everything".
"Ok," said Severus, pocketing the slip of paper. " What if they dont believe me"?
"What if they do? Give it a try...it will work out".
And with that he left.

Severus mumbled the pass word to the fat lady. She gave a dissaprooving nodd, but knew she had to let him in. As the door swung open Severus's eyes widened. It was compleatly different to their common room. Gold and red stramers hang from the roof, setting a nice feeling over the room. Severus secretly wished he was in this house. He stepped over the Threshold and into the room. There in the middle of the room was Lily, James, Sirius,Wormtail and Remus sitting by the fire. Otehrwise it was completly empty, which was to be expected as it was 1:30 in the morning. Heads turned and wands raised as they spotted Severus.
"What are you-How did you get in here-GET AWAY FROM LILY?" yelled James, sitting up and walking to face Severus. By now the imperius effect ahd warn off Lily and she ran to his side.
"Dont hurt him!" she yelled to the others as they readied to curse. Severus smiled. He loved the way Lily did that. James lowered his wand last.
"Severus, what are you doing here"? asked Lily, eyes wide.
"I need to talk to you in pr-"
"I dont think so!" said James angrily."I wont leave you alone with her-"
"Will you let me finish"? asked Severus. "Looks like your lucky day..."mumbled Severus,"Professor Dumbledore had orders for you, Lily and me to talk in private,"finsihed Severus.
"I dont believe you," said James automatically, not even considering a chance.
"James," Lily rolled her eyes. "It's obviously the truth because how else would he have entered our Common Room.
James opened his mouth, then closed, opening it again, then finally closing defeated.
" Now Severus...what was Dumbeldores orders"?

Severus faultered. Both pairs of eyes were on him, although he only wanted one.
"He wants me and James..to look after you Lily. He believes Lord Voldemort has got into your mind, and wants me-i mean us to help you. He believes that night when you kissed me..that you were under the imperius curse". He finised and drew a deep breath.
"Thats not right!" snorted James. "Lily woudln't kiss you! of course she wans't under the imperius...right Lily"?
She looked at the two and said "I-I did kiss Severus. I think Dumbledore may be right". James face darkened. He stared at Lily then turned to Snape.
"Your meaning to tell me that you kissed this filthy rat"?
She nodded sadely.
"You have to help...James," continued Severus. "It's what Dumbledore wants".
"Why should I"? he asked angrily. But before Severus could answer Lily said," why you two"?
But James already knew trhe answer. "Because we love you the most".
