Ok, what happened with our dearest Hogwarts' founder? We knew that he had a fight with Gryffindor (about whom they were going to teach and whom they wouldn't teach) and left the school. We also knew that he left his cosy chamber guarded by no one else than his lovely fanged pet. But in the WOMBAT # 3 we read as an option:
"Towards the end of his life, salazar slytherin reconciled with the other founders of hogwarts, and returned to the castle to die."
what do you think? could this be possible or not?
I think not. If so, he should have destroyed his chamber. Because if he actually reconciled with the others, specially with Gryffindor, this means that he could have changed his opinions on muggleborns. And, of course, he wouldn't have needed his little chamber and pet to get ride of all muggleborns, etc, etc, etc...
ok, I'd like to hear your opinions, my dear serpents.
ok, the others' opinions, too.

One's life is generally measured by what one has accomplished in life. Helping found Hogwarts is the greatest thing he most likely would have done. I am sure he was still fond of Goderick, but still had his own beliefs that he did not alter. He might have come back to make sure his legacy was still in tact and that his fanged serpent would survive until he was needed. With what we have seen of the chamber of secrets there would not be enough food supply to keep the basilisk alive for over 1000 years. So most likely it was put into some sort of magical sleep. Only a kiss from a Slytherin decendent could arouse this "Sleeping Beauty". If the basilisk was alive the entire time, or skins would have been found, and much more bones and such.

Salizar could come back and be with his beloved students and make sure that they understood the importance of "Pure Blood".

With the care that went into the making of Hogwarts, Salizar wanted to make sure all was set into motion to purify Hogwarts. I do not believe he was evil like Voldemort, but felt strongly that by bringing in muggle borns that it would some how deminish the wizards as a whole and would even lead to discovery by the outside world.

hey, that's a good idea, never thought about that posibility... Yes, he could come back to make sure that everything was 'under control'. And I like your theory about the 'sleeping beauty', it is true, soemtimes I wondered how did the basilisk survive all those years... the sleeping theory makes a lot of sense. then voldi wake him up, and lived of rats and other little animals for those 50 years...
poor fanged creature, it was starving!

Iareaj, I can't decide if you're Hermione with your WOMBAT scores, or Hagrid with the "poor fanged creature" remark. LOL! wink.gif biggrin.gif

I don't think he was evil either, but I don't think he was "good." I think Salazar was sort of an "in-between" wizard--not "evil" but disliked certain people.
