Okay, well, I'm pretty sure she was lonely. I mean imagine studying and studying with no friends! It's almost like being homeschooled!

She was obviously lonely, but she worked very hard, since she was muggle born, everything was new to her. Even though she had read her textbooks, she was probably reading them again and practicing the lessons until she got them perfect. Because she was so smart, she intimidated many of the other students, especially the Gryffindor girls of her year. Also since she followed the rules so closely and probably gave the other girls in her dorm lectures about what is and is not allowed, it is likely they would want nothing to do with her.

Maybe it's about not wanting to get kicked out of Hogwarts...

Hmmm...yeah, but she was a nerd before Hogwarts. Remember? It probably wasn't just about being scared of being kicked out! She was a perfectionist before she became their friend!

Hermione was a book worm, and therefore wanted to know all about it before going to school there. A bit obsessive compulsive behavior about it. Thank goodness she's lightened up a big. lol
Hermione@13
Jun 26 2007, 08:21 PM
LOL! Yeah, now that she's got Harry and Ron as friends:she's slapped Malfoy, lied to a teacher, persuaded Harry and Ron to break school rules, and more!

Ok, so maybe she's lightened up a whole lot. lol

Yeah, hmmm...now that my brain gears are starting to move more I've been thinking....what if Hermione had never become Harry and Ron's friend?

Jun 28 2007, 05:38 AM
Ron and Harry probably would have been dead.
Hermione@13
Jun 28 2007, 06:48 PM
Yeah, it was basically because of Hermione that they're now friends. She was the one that chose to lie and now they're close friends!

Ah, but if Harry and Ron didn't lock her in with and then save her from the Troll she wouldn't have lied. Like Jo said, "There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them."

like baty4potter said, she was a book worm but that didnt stop her from feelling lonley! i bet becuase of all then studing she would stay with nobody! i in the movies didnt it seem like she was always following ron and harry lol?
Hermione@13
Jun 30 2007, 07:44 PM
Yeah, it was sort of like that in the books, also. I think that she always wanted to be their friend in the first place, but Ron half didn't want to and Harry sort of had to agree.

yes your right!

I don't think that is was that Harry had to agree. I think it was more that Hermione didn't make a good first impression. I think she was very intimidating. But Ron and Harry weren't exactly friendly to her.
Hermione@13
Jul 30 2007, 06:57 PM
Hmmm...that makes sense. I still think that Harry sort of pretended to agree more with Ron on what he thought because he wanted to keep being friends with him.

Jul 31 2007, 12:21 PM
nah well i think she did make a bad impresion like just comming to them and making them feel like if they dont know anything but she is still my favorite character!
Hermione@13
Jul 31 2007, 06:45 PM
Yeah,you-well, not hate her-but have a sort of dislike for her in the beginning and then you start to love her. She definitely made it hard to become friends with her!

Aug 1 2007, 10:35 AM
Yeah. gotta love her. gotta love all!

Ron does! LOL! I wonder what they were both thinking in their heads when they first saw each other on the train. I'm pretty sure they were trying to be enemies.

EntertainmentThe thing the three of them had in common was the feeling of being "alone", which is different from being lonely. Hermione was a bookish girl with buck teeth and fizzy hair. She could not show what she could do in the Muggle world and because of her muggle-born status she was always going to have to prove herself in the Wizard world. Harry was famous for having not die when the most infamous dark wizard of the age tried to kill him. He was a blank canvas who had literally been kept in a cupboard, and therefore had no clue who he was and what he was about. Then we have Ron, who was by all appearances a privilege person, except for the fact economic classism and the rut on a group of distinguished over achievers. Each felt alone, but they were bold and brave around each other. One tends to stick with the first person that helps them feel OK in thier own skin.
