I just now realized something, and correct me if this was just in the movie, but didn't Harry tell Dobby never to try to save his life again? and in the end he did, thus proving the worst punishment, his death. i know this could be far fetched but still.....

I can see that, but, dobby himslef did not have to go get Harry he could have sent another house elf. or dumbledores brother [his name is escaping me at the minute] could have sent him a different house elf.

maybe he wanted to do it, and DD's bro is Aberforth right. Maybe dobby thought it was a insult for him not to rescue Harry from mortal peril, and another House elf wouldn't do it right.

I think you are putting way too much thought into this. Dobby didn't die because he disobeyed Harry, he was loyal to Harry, his friend, and there is no way a friend would send another in his place. Dobby died defending a friend that he loved. Just as plane and simple as that.

yeah mabey im reading to much into it, it was byfar the most surprising death.

im being kinda dumb for saying this but dobby didnt TRY and save harrys life. He DID save his life. and dobby obeyed who he wanted to. and so do you really think based on dobbys character that if dumbledores brother told him harry potter was traped at his ex evil death eaters masters house that he would just sit there and do nothing. of course he would go and save harry. i also think dobby died the way he would have wanted to. if it werent for him harry potter would be dead and the entire wizarding world would have no hope.

Ok... first of all... WAAAAY too many one liners in this post...

Second.... Dobby was never obligated in any way to Harry, beyond his sense of gratitude. The house elf magic never would have had an effect. Not to mention that Dobby didn't agree to it back then. In fact, when Harry made the comment that Dobby was never to try to save his life, Dobby suddenly smiled but said nothing.

Personally I think at that moment, Dobby decided that he wouldn't ever stop trying to save Harry's life... It was the first act of noble defiance of a free house elf to make that mental decision. (Not the Ron kind of "mental" either...)

first of all dobby didnt know that it was coming ,and it was an attack from bellatrix. second of all he saved harrys life twice in the cell and in the portal which dobby
made by elf magic.then bellatrix didnt want the boy to escape and then threw the knife. it was very sad i started to cry cause of that!

In the seventh movie they might do a bit of a flashback bit. When Dobby dies , a flashback appears with Harry telling Dobby to never save his life again?

Dobby was just being his normal self doing nice things for Harry because Harry was nice to him. They were trying to leave the Malfoy Manor and Bellatrix threw the knife and it hit Dobby in the chest.Bellatrix just threw the knife and as Harry was disapparating with Dobby and Griphook it just happened to hit Dobby. So it was kind of just a coincidence.

Dobby was a free elf so he could listen to whoever he wanted....

we know it was aberforths eye in the shard of glass.. he sends dobby to save them... so dobby is kind of following an order.

Although i don't think bella hit dobby with the knife by mistake...i think she aimed for dobby...because if she hit grip hook it wouldn't of stopped them from leaving....if she hit Harry then he would still escape.. and then possibly die...

so by aiming at dobby she was trying to kill him on the spot making it impossible for Harry and griphook to escape. but it didn't workd because dobby had enough energy to get harry out.
