I feel that the first film is the best one.
Why?
Because I feel that it introduces a whole host of new and exciting subjects, events, etc. Granted, it had to introduce the main characters and there's no way that the following films could do it, but there are so many other things that excite the senses.
The second and third films come up pretty close but I still feel that the first film edges them out.
Thoughts?

I loved 3rd the most although it was a little different from the books...it was much better than 1st and 2nd...though the 2nd wasn't bad either

my opinion, you can't really say which is better because they are all different story lines. hope you get my drift.

Well I'm saying the 3rd is better because there are better visual effects and the story is more conected then it was in the 1st...of course this is just my opinion

I'm not sure if I prefer the first or the third of the movies. If it was possible to merge the two it would be ideal - I mean take the surroundings, the quality of the effect from the third film and merge it with the first films more close relation with the book - and then you have it.
Anyway I will probably prefer the third film after watching it as many times as the first and second. I have a son, who prefer the first, a daughter who prefer the second and I'm in for the third
- anyway if going by the popularity of the books the fourth will be even better if they can manage without leaving too much of the essence out.

I think the first film is the best of all. All is new and if you see it for the first time you don't know what happens (I mean how it all looks...).

I really don't have a favorite one I guess. They all have a special place in my heart. SS/PS because it brought the Characters to *real* life, COS because we get to see the kids growing up, and POA because Lupin, and Sirius are brought into the picture, but also I liked the look of it. Just disappointed that POA was cut so short.
So I guess I can say they all are my favorite for different reasons.

the type of story line that I liked.

well, if I'm honest I don't like the first movie that much.
It was to childish, I think. The actors, especially harry weren't really good in acting.
The second movie was much better and the 3rd movie really great ^^

The first film was excellent in terms of the book being there on the screen. Most of it came across so close to how I had it in my mind and was cast so perfectly as well - especially the teaching staff. Quidditch was really well done. However, in terms of the actual quality of the film, I have to say that the best thing about it was the Lord of the Rings trailer that was on before it!
Chamber of Secrets was OK but never really excited me. I was never on the edge of my seat during the edge of you seat moments.
Both the first two were magical in a way but also a bit wooden and stilted.
POA was a definite step in the right direction. A much better 'film' than the other two, irrespective of the plot changes and ommisions. I loved the overall tone - much more grown up. I suppose it does help that POA the book was far and away better than the first two books. (ducks and runs!)

Did anyone else watch the movie on Ch. 9 (Australia) tonight? I enjoyed seeing it again but unless I'm mistaken, a few scenes seemed different to my DVD version. I know they cut down the Platform 9 3/4 scene where Harry first meets the Weasleys. I'll check it out later.
That Dan is such a cutie.......I can't think of anyone who'd have played Harry better.

I have to say that the first film was my favorite by far. Simply because it was the introductory film. Everything was so magical and we hadn't seen anything like it before. Sort of like The Matrix. It was so brand new with it's effects and such that in comparison to the two sequels, it's surpasses them greatly.

I agree up to a point. I can't wait to see Phoenix on the screen, but I'm afraid of all that they're going to cut out to get it there.

And as far as continuity of the book onto the screen, I think GOF will be more entertaining to watch than any of the others. To think of all that they have to squeeze onto a 2.5 hour film, well, GOF should be nothing but non-stop action. And that will be most entertaining.

You've definitely got that right!! I can't see a dull moment in the film. But *again*. as always, we will complain that it didn't stick with the books, and they left too much out.

I prefer the second out of the three films that are currently out. I found that the third movie was too rushed . (IMO) While the second, didn't include every thing, but had enough that you could understand if you hadn't read the books. Also everything was in order for the second. Thats just my opinion though.

Oh... we had atrocious translation even in cinems. But i saw original version. I prefer the 3rd movie. Yes it rushed and after all story seemed like it was in 3 days. But this is only movie

and it must be (IMO) such as.

I agree. My favourite was also the third film.
Sure, the first film was the beginning of the magic of Harry Potter.. it was well done, but in my opinion it was a little bit too childlesh.
The film was.. kind of sweet.
But the following films were better. They were more thrilling then the first and the actors were acting better.

Childish due to the fact that all three actors (Dan Rupert and Emma) were all very young at the time.

I have just finished watching the first 3 movies while I get myself in the proper mood for the release of a new book and a new movie.
The first movie had a "magical" feel to it that makes it a truly wonderful movie to watch again and again. The Best!

yeh, they float in the air...its cool...how much work for just a tiny little piece of the background

I knew they floated, I was just surprised that WB made it just a little extra special by having them move up and down. I was thinking that they had just left them stationary though at different heights. But upon closer inspection, I was very happy to see each individual candle move.
