Update2: Wizarding World of Harry Potter Information
|
It is being reported that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open in conjunction with the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will be in theatres in November 2010. The report, originally in French, came from the International Pow Wow, which took place in Miami May 16 - 20.
The report also stated that there will a roller coaster and a ride that has flying car races.
You can read the translation here.
UPDATE: We received word from Universal Studios in Orlando that the information reported in this article is inaccurate. Although which parts are inaccurate, I haven't been told. Let's hope it's the opening date and that it's still the beginning of 2010 and not November 2010.
UPDATE2: I got another response from Universal stating that it is the release date and money figures noted in the article that were incorrect. Here's what they had to say:
The last paragraph of the article references that the opening of the Wizarding World will coincide with the release of the first installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, sometime in November of 2010. This information was never shared during Pow Wow (the international trade show that this journalist attended) and is incorrect. The Wizarding World is scheduled to open sometime in 2010.
We also don’t discuss monetary figures associated with building new attractions or improvements to our parks. We have never released a dollar figure relating to the development of the Wizarding World.
Thanks to Universal for letting us know!

Snow for Hogsmeade at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
|
In the Harry Potter books, many of you know that Hogsmeade is often covered in snow when Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger go there during outings while at Hogwarts. It looks as though Hogsmeade at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Florida will have snow as well. What? Snow in the middle of sunny/hot/humid Florida? That's right!
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal have signed on SnowMasters to help achieve their white visions.
Universal has signed a special-effects contract with SnowMasters Evaporative Snow Systems Inc. The Anderson, Ala.-based company builds fake snow-making machines and offers everything from blowing snow to ground blankets to faux icicles.
Now, to anyone like me who lives in Florida, this is definitely a treat. But for those (again like me) who are huge Harry Potter fans and a stickler for details, this is an absolute thrill. I'll have to make sure we have our Gryffindor scarves when we go!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is expected to open at the beginning of 2010. |

Hagrid's Hut at Theme Park for Prop Storage
|
We previously told you that a building being built at Universal Studios Florida for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter looked to be Hagrid's hut. According to a building permit, this information is correct. However, it looks like the building will be storage for props and people (or those who aren't employees anyway) will not be able to go into it. It will be fun to see, anyway!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be open at the beginning of 2010. |

|
Lighting and SoundAmerica Online reported that Technomedia Solutions will create the audio soundtrack design, music composition, site mixing, and audio visual systems design, integration and programming for the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The company, which is also based in Orlando, has provided the same services for other attractions at the park, such as Terminator 2 3D, The Mummy, and Spiderman. What Kind of Food Will the Harry Potter Theme Park Have?
|
In an interview with Universal Studios Orlando's Executive Chef, Steve Jayson, the question was asked what kind of food will the Wizarding World of Harry Potter have?
"We've visited Scotland to get a real close, personal look at the cuisine that they eat," Jayson said. "We're going to have one restaurant that's going to have a nice selection of items that you would probably expect to see in that vein of cooking, and I think it is going to be great."
But what about pumpkin juice? They've got to have pumpkin juice, right?
"Pumpkin juice, butterbeer," Jayson laughed. "All those great beverages, we are working on a lot of different things."
The theme park is expected to open the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.
