Video: Dan Radcliffe & Richard Griffiths' Equus Curtain Call
|
This past Sunday was the last showing of Dan Radcliffe's (Harry Potter) and Richard Griffith's (Vernon Dursley) appearances on Broadway for Equus. A video of the final curtain call is now online. It shows Dan giving a speech, thanking everyone, including the playwright and director, and the rest of the cast. Unfortunately Richard Griffiths was cut off because the person was told to shut off the camera. You can see the video here. |

My Trip to NYC: FAO Schwarz and Equus
|
I've mentioned in some previous postings that I was taking a trip to New York City. While there, I was able to visit the incredible FAO Schwarz store that includes an entire Harry Potter section and see Equus with Raadhika of The Daily Snitcher/DanRadcliffe.co.uk and Red with SnitchSeeker. I've posted some photos, which you can see below.
You can see the incredible FAO Schwarz Harry Potter section, that includes many of the collectible objects from The Noble Collection, here.
The Broadhurst Theatre, where Equus is shown, can be seen here. After the show, we got to see Dan (see photo here) and Richard Griffiths (see photo here). The play was excellent, and all the actors did an incredible job in it.
I also got a photo of Sardi's, in which some recent photos have shown Dan to be there, including the recent Broadway.com interview. See my photo here.
Overall, the trip was absolutely awesome (it was my first time there!), although incredibly cold for someone who's originally from the desert and now lives in Florida - lol! Loved it, though, and can't wait to go back one day!
Thanks to Raadhika and Red for meeting up with me! |

Video: MTV At Radcliffe’s Broadway Debut in Equus
|
Previously, we reported on the various reviews for Equus starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley). Now, MTV posted its own article and video about the Broadway revival of the play by Peter Shaffer.
The article mentions one difference between the London production and the Broadway one is that the director Thea Sharrock and the choreographer Fin Walker wanted the Broadway production to be more "visceral".
"We tried to find other moments within the play where we could slowly incorporate the horses," Sharrock said, "so the notion of Equus grows into the finale."
Radcliffe was quoted to have said this about the difference between London audiences and Broadway audiences:
"The audience in the U.S. has so far been incredible," Radcliffe said. "There's a couple of laughs we don't get in England," he said of performing the play in London's West End versus performing on Broadway, "only because the Americans get it so much."

Audio: Dan Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths on NPR
|
Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Richard Griffths (Vernon Dursley) spoke with National Public Radio (NPR) about their roles on Equus. In the nearly 11 minute audio interview, Dan speaks of his character Alan Strang, and Richard Griffiths speaks of his role as a psychiatrist who tries to help Alan. The interview also includes a small clip from the play. They're also asked how their experience with the Harry Potter films helped them with their roles on stage. They joke around with how they use improv to help save each other when they forget lines, how Dan stopped traffic on Broadway one Saturday when exiting the theatre, and much more! Go listen to this great interview here.
Equus is currently having previews on Broadway with regular shows beginning September 29th through February 2009. You can visit the official site here. |

Richard Griffiths "Rambles" About Acting and Radcliffe
|
The Mercury News interviewed Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley) who is getting ready to appear in the Broadway revival of Equus with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter).
"Oh, by the way, I do tend to ramble with answers," he warns at one point. At another, he stops mid-sentence to apologize: "Sometimes I wonder if I'm just completely draining the sense out of everything."
The article mentions that Mr. Griffith was born in England's Stockton-on-Tees and raised by parents who were both deaf and mute. Thea Sharrock the director of Equus believes that experience has contributed to his craft:
"The first language he learned was sign. And therefore his ability to listen to people with his eyes as well as his ears is incredible," Sharrock says. "He has a unique talent for listening."
As for Mr. Griffiths' regard for Dan Radcliffe, he was quoted to have made these comments.
"I know a lot of tickets are sold in order to have a look at Daniel's body," Griffiths says. "He's completely cool about it." And, adds Griffiths, who affectionately calls Radcliffe "cunning," the young actor has spent the past two years working on his physique.
and
He's watched with mild amusement as his co-star Radcliffe's profile has soared. "He's the polar opposite of my experience: He's 19 and a multimillionaire. What's not to want about that?"
