Singing Sorceress in Harry’s World Celebrates Birthday

Posted by Lilysowl On August - 18 - 2014

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Celestina Warbeck and her BansheesAccording to the Pottermore Insider, the singing sensation of the wizarding world Celestina Warbeck is celebrating her birthday today.  One of J.K. Rowling’s favorite “off-stage” characters that she created for her Harry Potter series of books was noted in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Chapter 16 ‘A Very Frosty Christmas’:

“They were all supposed to be listening to a Christmas broadcast by Mrs Weasley’s favourite singer, Celestina Warbeck, whose voice was warbling out of the large wooden wireless. Fleur, who seemed to find Celestina very dull, was talking so loudly in the corner that a scowling Mrs Weasley kept pointing her wand at the volume control, so that Celestina grew louder and louder. [...]

‘Oh, come and stir my cauldron,
And if you do it right
I’ll boil you up some hot, strong love
To keep you warm tonight.’

‘We danced to this when we were eighteen!’ said Mrs Weasley, wiping her eyes on her knitting. ‘Do you remember, Arthur?’
‘Mphf?’ said Mr Weasley, whose head had been nodding over the satsuma he was peeling. ‘Oh yes … marvelous tune …’ “

But it was today on Pottermore.com which revealed more information about one of Molly Weasley’s favorite singers.  Players of the virtual game site can ‘unlock” Rowling’s notes on Celestina Warbeck in the “Floo Powder” Moment of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  The notes reveal the singer’s background, career highlights, and her personal life.  An audio track of Ms. Warbeck’s single “You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart” is included with the notes.

As a registered player of Pottermore.com, it took me a few minutes to unlock the information.  I must say it was quite juicy enough for me to take an Insider Oath not to give out any spoilers to ones who cannot or have not unlocked the information for themselves or else a certain larch and phoenix feather wand may lay a temporary curse on my typing fingers.  It is true that you may be able to get the “forbidden” details from another source.  But I’d hate to see what kind of boils may grow on their fingers in the next few days. *shudder”.  But I can tell you that the single will definitely be a hit for Ms. Warbeck.  I certainly enjoyed it!

Also, Celestina Warbeck and her Banshees are currently performing at Diagon Alley at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Studios Orlando.  Click here for more information.

Immerse Yourself in Diagon Alley

Posted by Dijares On June - 20 - 2014

I was lucky enough to have been invited to Universal Studios Orlando for the preview of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. For those of you who have already been to see Hogsmeade and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft of Wizardry… Well, you’ll be wanting to make a return trip to Orlando, because Diagon Alley – which will open on July 8th – is everything you wish it could be… and more!

The Gringotts Bank Dragon

The cobblestone streets include witches and wizards who are completely in character, even when you attempt to speak with them.  There’s every store you’ve read about in the Harry Potter books or seen in the films, and more! All of the food, sweets, and drinks are there as well… And more!

Diagon Alley

You can take your wand and stand upon the magical spot and wave your wand and whatever object you’re standing in front of will magically react to your spell. Careful, though… sometimes they like to play a trick on you as well!

The Mermaid has a magical spot

Some of the wonders that have come to life are the Leaky Cauldron – with scrumptious food and drink. There’s a Wands by Gregorovitch store. You can order all types of Gilly Water from Eternelle’s Elixer of Refreshment as you pace your way through the walkways. Make sure to stop by Florian Fortescu’s Ice-cream Parlour! There are some superb flavors there! Madam Malkin’s will supply you with your school robes!

Get your ice-cream at Florian Fortescu's Ice-cream Parlour

To buy items within Diagon Alley, you exchange your money at the Gringotts Money Exchange.

Gringotts Money Exchange

Of course, the highlight of Diagon Alley is Gingotts Bank with the fire-breathing dragon on top.  That’s right… It breathes fire every few minutes, so stick around to hear it roar and feel the heat of its flames.

Gringotts Bank Fire Breathing Dragon

When you go inside, you will see the goblins counting their gold coins. If you ring their bell, they’ll look at you. And the head goblin will speak to you.

If you want to go to your vault, you’ll have to take a ride to get there. Unfortunately, the ride was not operating at the time I was there, but I did get to go along the queue and get some video with the goblin giving instructions with Bill Weasley.

Here is a video I made of a quick walk through of all of Diagon Alley.

Outside of Diagon Alley is London, complete with Kings Cross Station where you can take the Hogwarts Express into Hogsmeade and then return to London.

Kings Cross Station

While in London, don’t forget to look for the magical door to the Leaky Cauldron!

It's the magical door to the Leaky Cauldron! Can you see the Leaky Cauldron sign?

Also in London you’ll get a chance to see the Knight Bus with the totally in character bus driver and his jokster body-less buddy.

It's the Knight Bus Driver - do you need your ticket? The Shrunken Head! He's suck a jokster!

For me, the true highlight of the entire new area is The Hogwarts Express. It was made using all of the original materials used for the films. In the queue there’s an area where someone can take photos or video of you actually going through the wall at Platform 9 3/4. Do you have any idea how excited I was to ask for directions to Platform 9 3/4? I really didn’t know where it was… It was quite surreal.

Once inside, the windows (including the doors) come alive with many of the scenes you’ve seen in the films – including Dementors, Buckbeak the Hippogriff, the Weasley Twins, and more!

So, I say, make your reservations today! It is truly the complete Harry Potter immersive experience!

Photos: Hogwarts Express Ride News at Universal Orlando

Posted by Lilysowl On March - 13 - 2014

The Wizarding World of Harry PotterWe previously reported Universal Studios Orlando’s plans to expand The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park to include Diagon Alley which will be open to the public this summer. A part of that plan is the addition of a new ride which will be on the Hogwarts Express!  Thanks to Universal Orlando, we received new details about the ride.

Guests will be able to watch the Hogwarts Express pull into the station after they pass through the brick wall of Platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station.  Billowing steam and authentic whistle will beckon them to board for their trip to Hogsmeade en route to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Riding the train like our favorite characters did in the Harry Potter books and films, Guests will be able to look out the windows and view the British countryside while having encounters with J.K. Rowling’s magical creations.  They’ll see Hagrid come alongside the train on his flying motorbike, Buckbeak the Hippogriff swoop gracefully over the black lake, the Weasley twins on brooms and up to their usual antics, the
Knight Bus swerving through London traffic – and other special moments and surprises like a Dementor or two, or even more.

However, there are two different experiences available for Guests when they ride the Hogwarts Express at Universal, for it depends if they are taking the train to London or to Hogsmeade.

Universal’s Creative team has been working closely with Warner Bros., Stuart Craig and the production team from the Harry Potter films to create a sensational Hogwarts Express experience that the entire family can enjoy. The Creative team has gone to great lengths to ensure the experience is true to the books and films. Everything about the train is authentic – from the paint and the materials used to build it….all the way down to the whistle.

Park-to-park admission is required to experience the Hogwarts Express journey from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley (located in Universal Studios Florida) to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter –Hogsmeade (located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure). For more information about the Hogwarts Express – including a new video that features a first-look at the ride experience – and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, click here.

Thanks to Universal Orlando for the information and photos!

More Details on Diagon Alley at Universal Studios

Posted by Dijares On May - 11 - 2013

We previously told you that Universal Studios Florida were expanding their park to include Diagon Alley and parts of ‘London’ to help complete their Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Inside the Magic was able to sit down with Theirry Coup, senior vice president of Universal Creative and get more information on the expansion.

Coup explained that their visitors wanted more from the Harry Potter books, including Diagon Alley, London (King’s Cross Station and Platform 9 3/4), Gringotts Bank, and the Hogwarts Express.

He started his journey in London, going to Diagon Alley to get his wand, and going on the Hogwarts Express, going to Gringotts Bank to get the money from his parents – that was such a huge part of the stories and we had to bring it to life. And the way we’re bringing it to life is even cooler.

Diagon Alley Rending

He said that the level of detail that will be found in this expansion is going to be much higher than the rendering provided earlier in the week.

It’s going to be so much higher in details and we had to take some creative liberty as to where things are positioned exactly because we’re trying to put everything in a rendering and you want to make sure that the overall impression and the feeling is correct, which it is, but […] the real thing is going to be so much more than that.

Of course, one of the exiting new items announced was that visitors would actually get to ride on the Hogwarts Express. Coup gave a bit more information on how that’s going to work.

You will certainly feel exactly like you’re taking a journey from London to Scotland or coming back from Scotland to London, King’s Cross Station, and the outside world will be completely invisible to guests and they will be completely immersed in that journey on the train. Everything you can imagine that happened along the way as it did in some of the films plus some other surprises.

The train is expected to take passengers through the back lot of the studio, but they won’t realize it, as the entire experience will be completely immersive.

The wonderful thing about trains too is there’s no limitations, no age or size limits. So it’s a wonderful thing for the whole family as well. But we learned lots from the previous Harry Potter, operationally. I think our team is really planning all that very carefully to ensure that everyone is able to ride it and it looks like there will be no issues with that.

It’s going to accommodate a lot of people as a large train normally would. We’re going to be very true to the fiction and the film is mostly where the visuals were.

For those of you who have been to Universal Studios Florida, you know that it is actually two parks, and admission is usually only to one park, unless you get tickets for both, which, of course, costs more. This is one of the details they’re working out for this expansion.

He was also asked about what kind of stores and restaurants will be included in the expansion. He didn’t give any details, but he said they will include the places that Harry Potter went to. So, one would think that there would be a Leaky Cauldron at the very least.

And what would be Diagon Alley without the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes?

Ollivander’s Wand Shop is already part of the Wizarding World, however, for those who have been there, they know it’s one of the more popular spots. Who doesn’t want their wand chosen for them? Coup hinted that they may have another one located within the new expansion.

J.K. Rowling gave us the okay to open an annex to Ollivanders, which was in Hogsmeade Village. But to be true to Diagon Alley certainly we want to make sure we brought all the iconic places that belong in Diagon Alley. So, you’ll have to wait a little bit more, but imagine.

And, as the shown on the renering, the dragon will definitely be located on top of Gringott’s instead of in the dungeon.

Coup said they worked with Harry Potter film designer Stuart Craig to create a ride for Gringott’s that will take passengers into the bowels of Gringott’s, very like the books/films.

We took these incredible visuals, worked with Stuart Craig, and we’re going to take our guests for an incredible journey down in Gringotts Bank.

It’s going to be definitely a family ride, that it brings all the thrills and excitement Harry Potter would bring to this world. I can’t reveal too much, but I will soon – when I’m authorized to. It’s going to be fantastic, I can tell you that much. If you saw the films and you saw how cool these settings were, so it’s that brought to life so the whole family can really enjoy it.

Coup said their hope is to make Diagon Alley very much like the books and films portrayed it… Very intimate.

We don’t want to create stores that don’t really fit with the fiction. So there’s still a sense of intimacy, though Diagon Alley is a larger place than Hogsmeade Village. It’s not a little village in Scotland. But we’re not going to drift away from being faithful to what the stories and the visuals were in the films. So you can expect it to be pretty accurate to what was there, which means it’s going to be probably a bit larger than Hogsmeade, because Hogsmeade Village, again, is a small village.

Of course, JK Rowling is involved with the conceptualization of the expansion to ensure it is true and authentic.

The expansion is set to open sometime in 2014, though Coup wouldn’t give any details on an exact date.

Wizarding World of Harry PotterWe told you way back in December of 2011 that Universal Studios Hollywood was getting their very own Hogwarts castle.  Today, it was announced that construction for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would begin on the Hollywood site late this summer.  The theme will be similar to the one at Universal Studios Orlando, however there isn’t as much room in Hollywood.  Therefore, two current areas, Gibson Amphitheatre and the Curious George section, are being removed to make way for the park.
